Dance Crip-Walk (C-Walk). Type of modern dance.
Crip Walk can be described as a street culture dance, modern and spontaneous. The creep walk pays primary attention to the movements of the legs: as in a twist the dancer “presses the cigarette butt with his toes”, so in the creep walk different possible signs or words are written out with his feet. Sometimes, therefore, the creep walk is referred to as a "graphic dance".
In the late 60s in Los Angeles ghettoes were formed - special areas with a low level of development, inhabited by African Americans who defended their rights after the complete abolition of slavery in the territory US .
In these areas, various bandit groups had a huge influence, they were practically the only force influencing social change. The levers of influence and the main profit of the gangs were drugs, weapons, murders, robbery, blackmail ...
, which later became known as Crips .
Raymond's main ideas were to seize a leading position in the social influence of his society, protect his neighborhoods, "have weight on the scales" ...
In the early 80s, Crip Walking began to develop as symbolic dance of the Crips gang, which is why it got its name.
Crip Walk or C-Walk is a contemporary street dance style focused on virtuoso improvised footwork. It appeared in the late 60s of the 20th century in Compton, a poor suburb of Los Angeles, and was performed to rappers' chants.
Members of the gang used dexterous footwork to display their name or give bandit signs, to initiate new members into the gang.
In the early 70s, with the development of the Crips gang, they had special movements that only they understood, at first they were used as visual signals, passwords, warnings.
Developing this idea, Crips began to use these movements for initiation into gang members, and if you were not a member of their group, but copied their movements, you could be shot right on the street.
These movements were first called Crip walk .
Then it grew not just into movements, it became their style, their lifestyle, to leave the house and perform a crip walk, it was as natural as washing in the morning, moreover, all the members of the gang “cooked in it” .
With their crip walk , the creeps wrote the name of the main rival gang Bloods , and then crossed it out, thereby "omitting" them. The answer followed in the form of Blood walk - a set of moves similar to Crip walk.
At this time, clowns appeared in the same areas of the ghetto, in which people, living on welfare, were either members of gangs or those who hid from them. Yes, clowns.
They hosted parties for ordinary African-American families while dancing to the local music of hip-hop. The first was Thomas Johnson , later he turned into Tommy the Clown for everyone ( Clown Tommy ) - a cheerful guy with a painted face and hair of all colors of the rainbow at once.
His style was called clowning. He found himself in various types of hip-hop culture, and became the progenitor of such a style as Krump . But Tommy had many followers who developed separately from him, and one of them, seeing the movements of the Crips gang - crip walk, which was then forbidden in America, added clown, comic movements and his own tricks to the dance ...
This is how Clown walk was born, thus, using their great popularity, clowns diverted popularity away from gangs in a more peaceful direction.
Young people have received a way of self-expression in dance, saturated with culture. Subsequently, the prohibition by the US authorities of crip walka, style Crown walk was based, as a synthesis of two names (crip and clown), this dance became a synthesis of clown movements clown walka and style, and the presentation of crip walka.
Options
Crip Walking has many motion variations. However, there are several major versions of the C-Walk that have always been part of the Crips culture:
-
• The "V" : This is one of the most important variations of the Crip Walk. In this variation, you need to move your body so that you "draw" the letter "V" with your feet. Creeps usually "write" words or their names with this move. Usually the word "Bloods" is written and then crossed out or "erased". - • The Heel-Toe : Also one of the most popular C-Walk variations. In this variation, you need to do half-turns with your heels and toes. The tricky part here is doing the "angles" with your feet, for example: your right foot needs to be at a 90 degree angle behind your left foot in order to do a half turn.
- • The Heel-Hop : Another popular version of the Crip Walk. This variation is similar to the Heel-Toe, but it does not require any turns. You simply transfer the support from one foot to the other.
- • The Shuffle : This movement involves shuffling your feet back and forth.
Our time
Crips walk became popular after rap artist Ice-T showed up in front of the cameras in the 1990s. Clown wlak is just a hip-hop dance.
- Clown walk is usually faster
- Elements in clow walk are more spectacular and less traditional
- Clow walk is a dance, not a ritual
- This is freestyle without the required elements
- During the dance, a person does not perform actions related to gangster chips
Currently, the dance C-walk is developing, implying a way of expressing one's feelings, emotions, state, but not forgetting the history and soul of the dance. And gangs Crips and Bloods , having many years of development and bloody war among themselves, dividing spheres of influence, signed an unspoken “peace treaty” in 2006.

Ever since that gig, I've been looking for a way to get to know Raffley. We arrived at the set where we were filming a video for another musician. He played a mixture of rock and folk in the same style that Raffley became famous for. We were approached by Siek Ghazali, a stocky man in a traditional cap and waistcoat. Siek was the most famous music producer in the city, and, by a happy coincidence, it turned out that he was working with Rafli. Siek agreed with him that he would pick us up and together we would go to the governor's house, where a concert was to be held in the evening.
Rafli was a giant on stage. In a personal meeting, it turned out that he was shorter than me. He radiated calm masculinity and possessed the strongest charisma. When we got out of the car, a crowd of fans surrounded him and escorted him to the stage. He greeted everyone with a hearty handshake, as if he were greeting friends he hadn't seen in a thousand years. Instead of taking the fans' presence for granted, he was constantly grateful to them for coming to see him.
The governor's house turned out to be a town hall in a village not far from Banda Aceh, where many citizens were invited. Before the performance, the women's troupe performed a slow festive folklore dance of the royal retinue. It was followed by endless performances by men in beautifully painted silk shirts and traditional hats, making long speeches, often mentioning the tsunami.
“This village was not affected by the tsunami at all,” Kade said.
We were unbearably bored, but we patiently waited, and finally Raffley sang three songs, waved to the fans at the exit and gave us a lift to the FWA headquarters.
The house where Kade rented a room closed at eleven, and I invited her to spend the night with me. Local women are strictly forbidden to sleep in the house where so many men live. Even Zakia, the only woman in the FVA, always went home at sunset. Kade refused to leave the bedroom, even to go to the toilet. The Indonesians I met wore a headscarf even at home, but Kade took hers off before going to bed. I imagined that under the headscarves all the girls had long flowing curls, but she had a short haircut. Her hair looked like she cut it herself.
“The less hair, the more comfortable it is to wear a headscarf, and no one sees it anyway,” she said.
DANCE LESSON INSTEAD OF ENGLISH
A teacher I met at the fair took me to her school. It was one of the few schools left intact. She introduced me as a dance teacher, and the children cheered:
“Salsa?
“No, my dance is different,” I answered.
But the conversation still returned to salsa several times. Luckily, I knew the basic moves. The boys danced on one side of the class, the girls on the other. In gratitude, the girls danced adobe is the dance that Fifi started to teach me. They knelt down and sang, slapping their shoulders and clapping their hands.
These cheerful, laughing children looked just like teenagers in any other country in the world; only the boys were in uniform, and she made them look like guards, while the girls wore long skirts, jackets and headscarves.
When I came to school for the second time, I went to a lesson with another teacher, and she just left. The kids were completely out of control. I didn’t know what to do with them, but when the boys stole my camera, I decided that I needed to calm them down in any way. They weren't interested in English, but I managed to grab their attention with an impromptu Spanish lesson, complete with a couple of salsa steps.
COOKING CHAPTER
At lunchtime, Zakia and Bustami and I walked across the street to the same café. It was a roadside diner with plastic tables. Instead of a window, there is a blue cellophane curtain. The menu was not varied, but always included nazi (rice), sambal (hot peppers or a mixture of peppers), lukewarm fish that lay in the sun for hours, and a tiny piece of some vegetable in a plastic bowl.
Many restaurants were destroyed by the tsunami. Since the tragedy, the need for ready-to-eat food has increased due to the influx of foreign charities, so new eateries have popped up like mushrooms after rain.
In addition to mi goreng, sold from the stalls in the city center, and nazi goreng - the name of this dish at roadside eateries was stenciled with felt-tip pen, - satay - small skewers on wooden skewers - were popular additions to rice. They were made from beef or chicken and eaten dipped in a spicy peanut sauce. In Indonesia, people with peanut allergies would always be hungry: peanut garnish is served with most rice dishes, and nuts are used in many savory sauces. My favorite meal was denden, Acehnese version of jerky - spicy, crispy sun-dried beef.
Aznavi and a student from the Japanese delegation took me along an abandoned lane on the edge of the city to taste rujak. The place we were going was famous for its fresh fruit dishes, as evidenced by the luxurious tropical fruit stands at the entrance. The man was scooping out the jelly-like brown flesh of a fruit with a hard rind that I had never seen before. The pulp was then mixed with soy sauce, peanuts, palm sugar, fruit, and hot chili peppers. We enjoyed this delicacy sprinkled on crushed ice, dipping chunks of it into the unusual brown sweet-sweet-salty sauce.
In Indonesia, cucumbers and avocados are classified as fruits. Cucumbers are used to make a sweet soup and together with other fresh fruits are used to make rujak. We quenched our thirst with coconut milk mixed with lime juice and palm sugar; pieces of fresh coconut were added to the milk.
I have tried a huge number of fresh juices: avocado, tamarind, carambola, mango, papaya, tamarillo, cucumber and melon. Most of all I liked the sugary es campur. It was made from dark brown palm syrup with coconut milk and ice, dragees and pieces of jelly. Jelly is very popular in Indonesia: its multicolored balls are pleasant to chew, although they have no taste. “Vegetable” black jelly is a thick marmalade made from the juice of a plant. There is also colorless jelly, and I especially liked the hard and red ones, also in the form of balls.
durian caused the most conflicting emotions - a huge yellow-brown fruit covered with cones; it is known as an aphrodisiac]. When durian is cut open, a pungent smell appears - Ross and Dan always left the room. Durians were sold in huge piles along the road: apparently, people were ready to put up with the stink for a soft, buttercream-like pulp with large black seeds.
