Matt Carriker Veterinarian comes to the rescue of homeless animals

Watch! High in the sky! It's a bird! This is a plane! No, it's a vet!

Superman is known for his supernatural powers and battles in tights and capes. He usually fights Lex Luthor and avoids the eternally immobilizing Kryptonite. But brute strength and lightning speed don't always make a hero. A real superhuman can put on scrubs and carry a scalpel and save as many lives. Example: Matt Carriker.

The veterinary profession belongs to the Carriker family and is part of his inspiration.

“My father is actually a veterinarian, I watched him do it and decided that I should do it too,” he said.

After graduating from Texas A&M with a veterinary license in 2012, Carriker and his family moved to Burn, Texas, where he began practicing at a small animal clinic.

Although he finds veterinary medicine satisfactory, Carriker says he was surprised by some of the harsh facts about veterinary medicine.

courtesy of Myers net worth

“I didn't know how many stray animals there are, euthanizing hundreds a year; it opened my eyes. And many of them are healthy animals.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor reports that there are 218 million pets in the US and Americans spend an average of $500 a year on their pets. Given the cost of vaccinations, food and other medical services, it's no wonder so many animals are left homeless and don't have the money to treat them.

Seeing first hand how many animals do not end up in decent homes, he began to wonder if there was another way to help homeless animals.

“Each veterinarian has taken a handful of animals under his wing and given surgery or treatment for free just because they want to help, but we can't do it every time. We cannot afford it. We need to feed families and pay bills,” he explained. Then Carriker came up with an idea that changed his whole life in a year.

Social Media Superpowers

Carriker says he started his first YouTube channel, Demolition Ranch, while in veterinary school. Demolition Ranch is a channel dedicated to weapons. He films himself in various firearms scenarios and talks about the weapons as he goes. It is now the fourth largest gun channel on YouTube, with over 1 million subscribers, Carriker said. With the success of his first YouTube channel, Carriker began to think of a way to use the power of social media for something other than entertainment.

"I started to wonder if I could make a video that would really positively impact the world, beyond entertainment."

In February 2014, the Vet Ranch YouTube channel was born.

Initially, he planned to use the funds received from the YouTube channel to pay for the treatment of stray animals, but quickly realized that the money would be enough only for this. He could only treat one or two animals a month, although he hoped to cure as many as possible.

“I was about to quit smoking, then people started asking if they could donate money for treatment,” he said. “I founded a non-profit organization, we started accepting donations from the public, and now we can treat as many animals as time permits.”

Superhero in action

Carriker films his patients before, during and after treatment so that donors can see where their money is going. His cases range from dogs hit by cars to stray hedgehogs to horses in need of a dentist. After completing the treatment, they move on to the next stage - to the house forever.

The channel currently has over 300,000 subscribers. It proved so successful that he added three more veterinarians to keep up with the number of cases and donations received.

“A veterinary ranch allows us to treat many more animals than if we did it all out of our own pocket,” he added.

Always dedicated to his work, Carriker works about 30 hours a week as a veterinarian at the clinic where he works and another 30 hours a week working as a YouTube master, video editor and completing procedures and surgeries at Vet Ranch.

One day he plans to take the veterinary ranch to the next level and spend his time exclusively taking care of homeless animals who wouldn't stand a chance without his help.

“In my opinion, any veterinarian can vaccinate a dog. If I don't vaccinate the dog, the owner will take them to another veterinary clinic and they will vaccinate them, but not every veterinarian can cure stray dogs because they don't have the funds to do so. If I'm not there to fix a stray dog, they won't fix it, they'll put it down instead. I think it will be better for me."

First full Hogwarts Legacy gameplay

The highly anticipated role-playing action Hogwarts Legacy, which takes place in the universe of the books "Harry Potter" today has got the first video showing the real gameplay.

During the broadcast, which took place on November 11, a fragment of the gameplay was shown with a duration (how many minutes are there). The first thing the developers decided to talk about (and show) was the character editor. You can't call it detailed, but it looks good. And yes, you can reward your character with iconic round glasses! Also, at the stage of character creation, a choice of difficulty will be available, among which there is a "story mod".

A first look at live gameplay clearly indicates that Hogwarts Legacy will place a lot of emphasis on exploring locations and interacting with various objects using spells. Within the walls of Hogwarts there will be many hidden secrets that can help with the passage. The interiors themselves look elaborate, and, for sure, will delight fans of the universe with their details.

One of the key items for your character will be a book of spells. It also reflects your leveling, and serves as a place to store spells and something like a glossary. The pages for her will become one of the collectibles. And yes, there will be a system of competition between faculties in the game. And the number of points of each faculty is presented in the form of something like an hourglass.

Hogwarts was shown to be not only detailed, but far from empty. A large number of characters can be spoken to, and many of them will become sources of side quests of varying degrees of importance. The dialogue system shown is quite linear, but at least without "yes, no, sarcasm".

The combat system looks quite interesting and complex, and the battles are dynamic. Players will have a "sixth sense" that will alert them to an upcoming attack, allowing them to dodge or parry a targeted spell. The color of the shield will indicate what type of spells the enemy is preparing for (and which ones can be used to successfully break through the defense).

Although not many locations were shown during the broadcast, and all of them were located inside the castle and the rooms of the faculty, according to the hosts, the surrounding land of Hogwarts will be recreated and playable.
