8/8 Cheryl Ladd Wanted To Be A Singer

Cheryl Ladd was born Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor in 1951 in Huron, South Dakota. After high school, she wanted to be a singer. She joined a band called The Music Shop. They played in the Midwest until they settled in Los Angeles.

She got a bit of a break when she landed the role of Melody in the animated series Josie and the Pussycats, and she also sang on the album.

After that, she began to land acting roles in commercials and TV. She appeared in some of the biggest hits of the '70s including The Partridge Family, The Rookies, Police Woman, and Happy Days.

7/8 Cheryl Ladd Wasn't An Original Charlie's Angel

Before Charlie's Angels was a movie twice, it was a 1976 television series.

The opening of the show was "Once upon a time, there were three little girls who went to the police academy; and they were each assigned very hazardous duties. But I took them away from all that and now they work for me. My name is Charlie!"

The premise was three beautiful private detectives who worked for a never-seen man named Charlie. Each week they would get a new case from Charlie via speakerphone, and the case would be solved at the end of the hour.

The show was a huge success, especially for its stars, Jaclyn Smith as Kelly, Farrah Fawcett as Jill, and Kate Jackson as Sabrina. But the real breakout star was Fawcett. So it was a shock to all when she decided to leave Charlie's Angels after only one season. There was a battle and lawsuit over her contract. She ultimately left but agreed to make guest appearances.

6/8 Cheryl Ladd Replaced Farrah Fawcett On Charlie's Angel

With Farrah gone, Charlie needed a new angel. Producer Aaron Spelling had worked with Cheryl Ladd before, and he offered her the role. Initially, she turned it down. “What maniac would try to do that?” Ladd told Closer Weekly. “Aaron [Spelling] asked me to do it, and I said no! She went on, “I said, ‘I don’t know how anyone is going to pull this off. I would not know what to play or how to play it. I’d have to do more than replace Farrah — to be something different — and I can be funny.’"

Spelling came up with an idea that Cheryl finally agreed to. The part was made as Jill's (Fawcett) little sister. Ladd felt that, this way, she would not be stepping into Farrah's shoes. The part of Kris would become her own, and it did. Charlie's Angels remained popular and on the air for four more seasons.

5/8 Charlie's Angels Empowered Women

A post shared by Jaclyn Smith (@realjaclynsmith)

Charlie's Angels ran from 1976-1981. The women stars were beautiful, and the show played that up whenever it could. The real message of the show sometimes got lost in that.

The women were also intelligent and strong, and knew how to use their weapons, as well as their fists, to fight crime. This was the first successful show to star three women in this type of role.

In an interview with Forbes, Jaclyn Smith said, “We were independent women making our way. Our lives didn’t revolve around men. There was a bond with the girls, and we had loyalty to each other which was a gift from heaven, and that’s what we want today,”

4/8 Cheryl Ladd And The Tiny Bikini

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Cheryl Ladd (@angelcherylladd)

Although the premise of the '70s hit was taking down bad guys, critics referred to it as "Jiggle TV" . In practically every episode, at least one of the women would be in a bikini. Cheryl spoke with Aaron Spelling about the wardrobe and said she did not think the constant bikinis were necessary. Spelling supposedly agreed, but soon her character was in a bikini again.

Ladd decided to do something about it. She found the tiniest, most revealing bikini she could find and wore it. The episode aired, but with a lot of close-ups and editing so too much skin didn't show. The network understood her message, and it did not happen again. That was pretty rebellious for that time.

3/8 What Did Cheryl Ladd Do After Charlie's Angels?

After Charlie's Angels, Cheryl Ladd remained on TV screens. She starred in over 30 made-for-television movies. In 1983, she starred as Grace Kelly, in the movie based on the life of the actress-turned-princess. She also acted in some feature films.

In the early 2000s, she returned to series TV in Las Vegas, where she played Jillian Deline, wife of Ed Deline, played by James Caan. She also starred on Broadway in Annie Get Your Gun.

Ladd has written a children's book, and a book about golfing, which she loves.

There was an immediate bond between Ladd and Smith when Cheryl joined the cast. The two would chat and laugh together all the time.

It has been over 40 years since the Angels said goodbye, and their friendship is still going strong. It is apparent form both of their Instagrams, where they post together often. They say that they speak all the time and visit each other often. There is a real bond between the two that has lasted for decades.

Cheryl Burke's husband

Cheryl met Matthew Lawrence in 2006 when his brother, Joey, was on the show DWTS. The attraction between them was instant, but after almost a year, they ceased to exist. Apparently, these two were still very young and were not ready for any commitment. Luckily, their paths crossed in 2017, and this time they started dating for real.
