How to Dirty Dance - Howcast
When you’re trying to seal the deal on the dance floor, knowing how to really get down can make all the difference.
Instructions
- Step 1: Find a partner Find a partner you can practice with. If you can’t find someone you’re sexually attracted to, just grab anyone.
- Step 2: Loosen up To learn to dirty dance you’ll need to loosen up. Wiggle around a bit. Get those limbs loose and limber.
- TIP: Commit to looking silly. Remember, no one’s watching at this point and no one cares.
- Step 3: Learn to grind your hips The 'dirty' part of dirty dancing is all in the grinding of the hips. Practice on your own. Grind to the front, front, side, side, front, front, side, side. Now that’s dirty!
- Step 4: Learn a basic step Learn a basic rhythmic step on your own. Step right, then bring the left foot together with the right. Then do the opposite -- step left and bring the right foot together. Now a little faster. Step right, together, left, together, right, together, left, together. Good.
- Step 5: Learn the basic hold Learn the basic dirty dancing hold. The man grips his partner so his right hip is glued to her right hip, with his right leg between her legs and her right leg between his legs. As for the upper body, the woman should have her hands around the man’s neck, while the man has his hands on the woman’s hips and/or rear end.
- TIP: The upper body can vary, but the lower body should always return to the basic grind.
- Step 6: Learn a basic dip A basic dirty dancing dip requires the man to slightly turn his partner to the right. While supporting her back, he lets her arch backward as she bends her supporting leg and raises her other leg as high as she can. She then drops her head back.
- TIP: As you dip, kiss your partner seductively. Pay particular attention to the neck, shoulders, hands, and the upper part of the chest.
- Step 7: Learn to spin The basic spin simply requires the man to turn the woman by her waist, as she follows his lead through one, two, or even three turns.
- Step 8: Both face front From time to time, face front. The man turns his partner so she is facing out, with his body pressed against her back. The woman can either have her hands at her sides, or wrap her arms around the man’s neck. The man’s hands are on the front of her thighs and hips. Yes, very dirty indeed.
- Step 9: Turn on some sexy music Now it’s time to put these basic moves together. Turn on some sexy music.
- Step 10: Get into a sexy frame of mind Get into a sexy frame of mind. Sure, maybe you have the sex appeal of a used stamp. But right now you need to think of yourself as the sexiest person on earth. Feel it. Believe it.
- Step 11: Let yourself go Now put it all together, and let yourself go. Step together, step together. Spin. Step together, step together. Dip. Step together, step together. Grind, grind, grind, grind. Dip. Now that’s dirty dancing!

What dances are called dirty? | Culture
It is said that the Viennese waltz was one of the first to receive such an assessment. And a certain French nobleman, who dared to show the high society how to dance it, immediately passed for a great libertine. And just put his hands on the lady's waist and circled around the hall with her. Tango and jive, salsa and hustle, mamba, lambada were once considered indecent - where without it.
In Colombia, a very piquant dance called "perchiero" , which means "hanger" has recently come into fashion. Those who want to warm up to its rhythms must first take off all their clothes and hang them on a hanger, after which they can safely go to the dance floor. Perchero is wildly popular among young people, but so far it is performed only at closed parties. For dancing under hangers in public places, you can rattle the police.
This fashion, thank God, has not yet reached Europe, and dances based on frivolous movements are still called dirty here: pachanga, cumbia bolero, calypso and many others.
Professional choreographers look at dirty dancing from a slightly different angle. For them, the term "dirty" means not so much "immoral" as "without a clear formula." I'll try to explain.
A standard dance is performed in a specific rhythm of its own. In it, all movements are predictable in advance, it can be performed both "across" the music, and without music at all. Dirty dance does not have its own rhythm and obeys the rhythm of the melody. And since it can be absolutely anything, the rhythm of the dancers' movement is constantly changing. Although, as in any other dance, the main requirement here is the synchronization of the movements of the partner and the partner. It is important to feel the music, to capture all its nuances. Just like Tanya Ovsienko once sang: "I want to understand where music is taking us." By the way, there is another name for dances of this type - free-dance .
An indispensable element of any dirty dance is touch. In addition to the fact that the hands touch, it is not forbidden to lightly run your fingers through the partner's hair, ear, cheek, neck, shoulders, stomach, hips. You can press your face or head against the partner’s neck, shoulders, chest, you can touch the lower abdomen with your hips. Access to erogenous zones is also allowed, but which ones depends on what your partner is willing to allow you to do. Kissing is not welcome. Sometimes a kiss ends the dance, but in general it is regarded as a manifestation of incontinence.
It is believed that during dirty dances the consciousness of partners changes under the influence of music and unpredictable rhythms. A woman in a fit of ecstasy and excitement is generally capable of losing her head. But the more pliable she is in the hands of the gentleman, the more reverently merges with him into one whole, the more magnificent the couple looks. If the partner (with partners, as a rule, this rarely happens) feels constrained, all the time thinking about “what people will say,” everything will really be more like vulgar flirting.
Dirty dancing is now included in the curriculum of many dance clubs. But this topic is not for beginners in choreography. You need to have at least a good ballroom school behind you. Dirty dance is not a prelude to sex at all, but the highest aerobatics of choreographic skill. It requires performers to have complete control over their bodies and the ability to subordinate them to their feelings. And only then does it turn into a breathtaking sight - beautiful, like a flower that has broken through from under the thickness of roadside mud.

Why is everyone crazy about Dirty Dancing?
Today, on the birthday of Patrick Swayze, we explain how and why Emile Ardolino's full-length debut won hundreds of thousands of viewers' hearts.
Outstanding Choreography
American director Emile Ardolino, for whom Dirty Dancing was his first work as a director, is himself a professional choreographer. In the early 80s, Ardolino received his first and only Oscar for the documentary "He taught me to feel the dance", which in many ways became his pass to the "big" cinema. In many modern dance films, rhythmic movements to music tend to act as an ideal backdrop for the main plot. In Ardolino's picture, the opposite is true - it is the dance that is at the forefront of the story of the characters of Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze. This bold and risky step, oddly enough, was fully justified - the passionate mambo of Johnny and Penny at the very beginning of the film, the exhausting backstage rehearsals of Baby and Johnny before the concert and the enchanting performance at the end were too good to hide them in the shadow of love vicissitudes. Ardolino, in fact, took the art of choreography in mainstream cinema to a whole new level, making the whole world come together in a dizzying dance.

It is noteworthy that Kenny Ortega, a student of Gene Kelly himself, a great dancer and creator of the brilliant Hollywood musicals Singing in the Rain, Halloween, Dolly!" and others.
Powerful On-Screen Chemistry
It's no secret that co-stars Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze's relationship during filming was, to put it mildly, very strained. Swayze, as a great perfectionist and a true fan of his profession, was used to working hard and demanded the same from his partner in the film. It is worth noting that by the beginning of work on Dirty Dancing, both actors had a great dancing background, but Swayze considered it insufficient for the film.

The actual dance rehearsals were far more exhausting and far less romantic than the final shot showed. Gray, who at that time was still a very young star, did not share Swayze's dedication and periodically set her boundaries, which naturally led to constant conflicts. Fortunately, the tense relationship between Patrick and Jennifer in the end only played into the hands of Andolino - sparks flew between them.
A Living Story
One of the reasons Dirty Dancing's plot resonated so strongly with viewers is that the film is based on real-life events taken from the life of screenwriter Eleanor Bergsteen. It was her who was called Baby in childhood, it was she who, at the age of 17, went to the CatsKills summer boarding school, where she participated in competitions in the so-called "dirty dancing". And if the character of Baby was written off from the screenwriter herself, then the dance teacher Michael Terrace, who worked at CatsKills in the mid-80s, became the prototype of Johnny. History is silent about what the relationship between Bergsteen and Terrace really was, but it is possible that dancing here, to some extent, could arouse feelings. Nevertheless, the fact remains: the stories truly "lived" by the author always turn out to be better than fiction. This is a contribution that is difficult to evaluate consciously, but which works very well on the subconscious of the viewer.

Advanced Social Contexts
Dirty Dancing was indeed a completely unique film for its time. Ardolino's work not only brought choreography to a new level of mainstream, but also promoted a really important social issue that remains relevant in our time. Dirty Dancing was lucky to come out at a time when cinema was becoming truly free. Thanks to the second wave of feminism and the active struggle of women for civil rights, the images of the main characters on the screen began to be seriously rethought. The character of Jennifer Gray is one of the first big results of the cultural reflection that began. Unlike many heroines of those times, Baby did not have a conventionally attractive appearance or emphasized sex appeal. For the most part, she was just herself - a simple "girl next door" with ambition and high hopes for the coming adulthood.
