How to dance like elvis presley tutorial
【How to】 Dance To Elvis Presley
okay it's actually kind of 1960 almost
uh with the two feet and then once you
get really comfortable with that just
lift up one leg
and do one foot and once you lift up one
leg
you really need to put a lot of your hip
movement into it
to get across the floor so once you get
really comfortable just going like this
i want you to watch your hip movement
and when this foot goes out
this foot goes out see it's pointing
outwards this foot
is going to touch your toes going to
touch across then when it comes back
like that your toe's going to touch over
here
so let's do it really slow touch there
this foot slides it does a little
shuffle and it touches over here
this foot switches and you go across
again
this foot switches make sure you put a
lot of hip movement into this
to be able to get across the floor or
you're gonna go like this
okay now before you even worry about any
kind of arm movement
that right there is ninety percent of
the battle so get real good and
comfortable
going like this across the floor
do it at work when you're on your break
stand in your office and go like this
okay now if you are a fan of other
elvish tribute artists you're gonna see
that almost all of them do it
differently than elvis truly did it
there are very few who actually do it
authentically
um i can't even remember who taught me
this move but it was at an elvis
festival and
some other eta was teaching me how to do
the window because i was having trouble
with it
and he told me to do a little anchor
with my elbow like this against my body
and if you watch elvis elvis didn't
actually do that
he did something similar to it on other
moves like in loving you when he slides
across the floor meanwhile
blues but he didn't actually do this
on the windmill but it did help me
mentally to put an anchor
right here in my arm so when you're
first starting out it is okay to do this
but once you get to the point where
you're where you got the move pretty
well
and you want to do it authentically just
put your arm out
it's really simple just hold this arm
out so
and let that arm swing across so once
you get real good and comfortable
just doing this
you're gonna bring in the swing
now the swing is going to go
clockwise or if somebody's watching you
it's going to be counterclockwise
i have the phone on the mirror setting
on the front camera right now
so it might come out reverse in the
video but i'm going
inwards you want your arm to follow
inwards to your face
not outwards so so when this foot goes
over
your arm is going to be up and when this
foot
goes this way your arm's going to be
down
then it's going to swing all the way
around clockwise
so this is the two positions you're
really hitting it's just a matter
of getting there so let's do this a
little bit slowly i'm going to put it
all together
and then i'm going to speed it up and
try to help you guys
get there
again
i hope you found this video informative
today i hope you liked it if this video
gets a lot of views

The origins of Elvis Presley's signature dance moves
While they might seem fairly tame by today’s standards, in the 1950s, Elvis Presley’s dance moves were nothing short of outrageous. All that hip-action smacked a little too strongly of sex for conservative tastes but for a generation of young people finding their own identity in the face of post-war conformity, it was part and parcel of something modern, fresh, and vital – rock ‘n’ roll. But where did those iconic dance moves originate? Well, to answer that question, we need to take a quick step back in time.
Of all the things Elvis is famous for popularising, perhaps the most well-known is his iconic ‘rubber legs’ dance move. You’d expect something so legendary to have been finely honed over decades of gigging, but in actuality, the move was born during Elvis’ first paid concert in 1954. While taking to the stage with Scotty Moore, his guitarist and Bill Black, his bassist, Presley found that he couldn’t stop his legs from shaking – being so nervous about performing in front of a paying audience.
But rather than trying to hide this involuntary reaction, Elvis decided to use it to his advantage – backing away from the mic during the instrumental sections of tracks and emphasising the shaking of his legs to the point that he seemed to be having some music-induced fit, as though the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll had entered his bloodstream like a shot of adrenaline. Presley not only managed to disguise his nerves but also sent the crowd into a frenzy, causing them to scream to such an extent that he nearly left the stage, fearing that he was being booed off.
But the roots of Presley’s dance moves may go back even further than that. In his own lifetime, Presley was accused of appropriating several aspects of his style from Black artists. Defending himself against such comments in an interview in 1957, Presley said: “A lot of people seem to think I started this business, but rock ‘n’ roll was here a long time before I came along.”
Adding: “Let’s face it: I can’t sing it like Fats Domino can. I know that. But I always liked that kind of music. I used to go to the coloured churches when I was a kid – like Rev. Brewster’s church (Rev. W. Herbert Brewster of East Trigg Ave. Baptist Church in Memphis)”.
Music and dance formed an important part of religious ceremonies in Baptist churches such as the one Elvis attended as a child. While the practice is largely associated with Pentecostal church-goers, some Black-led churches in the US provide forms of worship in which the Holy Ghost is invoked through music and dance, causing members of the congregation to flail limbs uncontrollably and – stereotypically at least – speak in tongues. Is it possible that Elvis’ style was informed by watching the people around him celebrate their religion during those childhood church services? It’s hard to say for sure, but considering everything else that made Elvis famous existed well before he popularised it among white Americans, I wouldn’t be surprised if the origins of those iconic dance moves go back further than 1954.

Rock and roll
Rock and roll online education. First lesson
Rock and roll is a great example of an infectious dance. At the highest peaks of popularity, absolutely everyone danced it: from paperboys to the English queen. Elizabeth II's fascination with rock and roll was extensively covered in the press and was a major topic of conversation in the UK. We will begin our training in this dance with the main move, as well as with a few simple movements.

Main move
Rock and roll is called a simplified form of jive for a reason, many movements and figures are taken from there. No exception and the main course of rock and roll. Those who remember our online jive lessons well will surely be able to perform the basic rock and roll move right off the bat. For everyone else, let's briefly repeat the sequence of steps on the part of the partner. The first step is done with the left foot back, or take a step in place. The second step is with the right foot in place. On the count of three, raise your left leg and cross with your right leg at knee level. On the count of four, you need to return your left leg to its original position. Five - we repeat the movement of the third measure, only with opposite legs. We finish the main move by returning the right leg to its original position.
Twisting
Partners face in the same direction. The partner takes the partner's left hand with his right hand, and the free hands are at waist level. For the first six steps, the partner performs the main move on the spot and, pulling the lady up with his hand, helps her turn to the left. The partner also performs the main move, but on the third step she makes a turn to the left towards the partner, as if wrapping herself around his arm. The partner's right hand is on top of the joined hands, and the partners finish this element side by side. After the figure of twisting, as a rule, there is a figure of unwinding - we will talk about it in the next lesson.

Acrobatic rock and roll: more sport than dance?
With the development of the rock and roll dance direction, its sports component, namely acrobatic rock and roll, actively developed. It retained the daring, recklessness and dashing of the classic rock and roll of the 50s, but at the same time it became a rather complex sport in which athletes are even divided into classes depending on the level of skill.

Rock and roll. Online lesson number 2. Spinning and acrobatic elements
Our second online rock 'n' roll lesson will focus on spinning and some acrobatic figures. It is logical that after completing the twisting, the partner needs to “untwist”. To do this, she needs to make a turn to the right of the partner, thereby "unwinding" from his right hand.

Jive training. Online lesson №4 (photo, video)
We continue our online jive training. Next in line are such elements of the dance as the change of hands of the partner behind the partner's back and the American spin turn. In these movements, there are many incomplete turns of 45 and 135 degrees - respectively 1/8 and 3/8 of a full turn around its axis. First you need to practice such turns separately from the rest of the elements.

Online jive training. Lesson three. Main move and turn (photo, video)
We continue our
online jive training. In the third lesson, we will talk about such important elements as the main move and turn, as well as the solo turn. Most jive movements are various variations of the basic move, so this element must be learned thoroughly, brought to automatism and repeated many times.

Online jive training. Basic movements. Lesson two (photo, video)
The first
online jive lesson was supposed to lay the dance base for the correct positioning of arms, legs and body in this dance. In our next lesson, we will look at the basic movements of the dance, in particular, the steps. Jive is characterized by small, short steps that are performed almost on the spot.

How a simplified form of jive or rock and roll was born is still alive
For the generation of the 60s and 70s, the musical style of rock and roll became a real religion.
