The 'Mac Dre Thizzle Dance Challenge' Was So Lit Even A Baby Joined In

California really could be divided into two states: Nor-Cal and So-Cal and nobody would complain. Things up North are just different than they are in the sunny, beach-filled, smog-polluted, gang-banging South. Everybody knows it, and that’s fine. The most natural geographic barrier between the two halves of the state is The Grapevine, a stretch of I5 north of Los Angeles and south of Bakersfield, and anything North of that is ran by Mac Dre. They have the Chucks and Dickies, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre and all that stuff and that’s fine because we have Mac Dre.

Nothing gets the party going North of The Grapevine quite like some classic Andre Hicks and there is no better visual proof than the “Mac Dre Thizzle Dance Challenge.” One amazing soul by the name of Damian Johnson decided to stroll into a Sacramento Golden Corral, complete the challenge and record it for the world to see and I could not be more thankful. The video is just 30 seconds long, but it has everything you could possibly need to understand just how infectious Dre is to everybody in Northern California. Lets break it down with one of those Internet, second-by-second bullet point deals.

00:03: Our friend Damian hops on a chair to announce to everybody that he’s introducing them to the Thizzle Dance. Notice the look of shock on absolutely nobody’s face because they’re all either in on the joke, or well accustomed to sporadic and spontaneous Thizzle dancing.

00:04: Now is as good a time as any to start paying attention to the old man in the bottom right corner with the Kangol hat on. He is key.

00:08: Damian’s buddy pops up in the bottom left corner with spectacular timing and an even better look of faux confusion on his face to go with Dre’s ad-lib on the song. Their preparation here is impeccable.

00:12: The beat drops and the left side of the screen explodes. The right side is still a little reluctant, including the old guy in the Kangol, but…

00:14: Buddy in the hat with the dreadlocks couldn’t contain himself anymore. He hops out his seat, baby in arm, and joins in on the festivities. Infant child and all.

00:16: The “Ayeeee!” chant breaks out. This can be heard at all Northern California gatherings. If you don’t hear it, I’m sorry to tell you, the party you’re at just isn’t lit. Find another one.

00:18: Our old friend in the Kangol recognizes that chant and joins in, even doing a little dance and just maybe thinking about getting out of his seat. A baby? An old man? Everybody in-between? Yup, this party is officially lit now.

00:22: Notice the employee in the back, causally going about his day, pouring drinks and minding his business. This is how NorCal works. If a mass Thizzle Dance breaks out, you either join in or mind your business and let everybody enjoy themselves. This guy is neither shocked, nor bothered. He knows what’s up.

Eventually the video ends abruptly, after what looks like a Golden Corral manager steps in and ruins everybody’s fun, but not before Damian and his friends can become living legends.

Here’s to the “Mac Dre Thizzle Dance Challenge” becoming the new “Running Man Challenge.” Please, internet. Please.

Energy in dance. How to light hearts and make your dance a practice of spiritual development.

!!! This is an old version of Sergey Kubera's article. Read the updated version on the author's website, it is much more interesting and understandable: http://kuberaland. ru/energetika-v-tantse-kak-zazhigat-serdtsa/

Dance is an amazing form of self-expression, a gift to create the mood we need or physical tone . For many who have been dancing for a long time, often and regularly, dance sometimes becomes a way of life and a way of knowing oneself, conscious or unconscious. At the same time, those who dance sooner or later ask themselves the question of their ability: “What next?”

Often, dance classes rarely go along the paths connected with the spiritual search of a person. This is explained by the fact that in our culture the concept of spirituality and dance are in no way connected. Modern attempts to connect the awareness of one's inner deep non-emotional states are made in contact improvisation, in some traditional Chinese and Indian dance arts, in rare African styles, but often they are limited to a general statement of the fact "yes, I'm in the flow, it's great."

How to look even deeper?

The ability to feel one's energies in dance allows a person to create conditions for an amazing practice of conscious interaction with internal energies and reach a completely new level of awareness of cause-and-effect relationships in his life. I'll give you an example.

Let's say you're dancing go-go. Music plays, people also dance, inspired by your movements. The DJ masterfully mixes, filigree complementing the composition with his original samples. "Where is the place of spirituality here?" the orthodox skeptic will ask. And it is everywhere .

You can dance instinctively, or you can be aware of specific energies that you manifest and broadcast into the surrounding space. You can manifest the energies of the heart and they will kindle the hearts of others. You can manifest swirling energies rising from below your torso and people will be inspired to new achievements in their daily lives. And, most importantly, all this allows you to quickly transform your own life, opening up new facets of it.

No less interesting examples of awareness of energies can be found in couple dances.

Those partners who, at some stage of their dance life, faced the problem that well-leading partners are very rare, can confirm that leading in a pair dance is not so much a partner’s technicality, but his special invisible inner core , thanks to which a man either clearly makes it clear what he wants from you, or unintelligibly “mumbles”, shifting the responsibility for leading to his muscle memory and the skill of his partner. All this is also connected with specific manifestations of human energies, which we will consider in a lesson on practical energy in dance.

Any dance can become a dynamic meditation that opens up multidimensional spaces for self-development , whether you're dancing on a pole, beating the rhythm in tap or flamenco, or indulging in the magic of leading-following in West Coast Swing. And the concept of meditation in such a process is sometimes revealed much deeper than it can be imagined: the ability to be aware of the change and movement of one’s energies in a dance opens up a person the opportunity to be aware of his energies in any actions in his life. Judge for yourself: it's one thing to sit still and feel something, and another thing to move and feel the same thing, and maybe much more. The second option may seem more difficult, but it is the one that allows fill every moment of your daily life with awareness .

Of course, in order to feel concrete manifestations of different energies in motion, you first have to get acquainted with them in a relaxed state of the body. In our classes, we will sit the way we like and learn meditation techniques that will allow us to bring the new skills we have learned into our dance and into our lives.

I have a special relationship with dancing.

At different times I got acquainted with different directions, of which the most close to me were west coast swing and incendiary Indian dance style with the funny name kuchipudi. Perhaps that is why people who are fond of dancing often come to my meditation classes.

Sergei Kubera: “I painted this painting based on sketches of a girl dancing on a pole. At that time, I noticed a lot of similarities between the difficult and graceful acrobatics in pole-dance and the fearsomeness and grace in the ancient martial art of Kalari Payattu.

We find a great common language with each other , because those courses of various directions, when I was looking for my dance , introduced me to the world of hip-hop, contact improvisation, hustle, and salsa, and with Argentine tango, and with lindy hop - and I can’t remember everything that happened over several years of active search for myself among different directions. Friendship with tap dance as a child, painting pictures inspired by girls dancing on a pole (see the example of my painting on the right), close friendship with teachers of different dance styles - everything came together when I was first offered to conduct an energy and meditation class for dancing people.

To feel your energies, you don't have to be some kind of psychic or a fanatic, pouring quotes from sacred texts for any reason. The main thing is to listen to your body, try to understand it. In this regard, people who are fond of dancing are able to get ahead of many who are not familiar with this amazing magic of movement.

In the lesson, our movement will continue, only the body will be static.

How is this possible? With our attention.

Remember that state when you just started dancing? I wanted to dance everywhere. And you could often do this just by imagining your muscles contracting in the movement you wanted. This analogy partly applies to our meditation practice, but we will not present anything. Instead of imagining , you will get acquainted with new aspects of the sensations of your body , discovering its unusual sides, realizing its magnificence and understanding its limitless possibilities for self-knowledge.

You don't need any special clothes to practice, just the one in which you will be comfortable to sit relaxed and at ease. The lesson looks like this: we are sitting, talking freely, but most of the time is devoted to doing practical exercises with my own attention, which I will explain.

All the acquired skills you can bring into your dance and into your life. Through the technique that I show, you can change the attitude of other people to yourself, to your actions, you can change your attitude to any events, you can add love to your life or, conversely, a militant will - what you need to solve your problems . This meditative practice can serve as an additional tool in your life, opening up new facets for getting even more pleasure and inspiration from your actions.

Energy in dance. How to light hearts and make any dance a spiritual practice. — Meditation with Sergey Kubera

Dance is an amazing form of manifestation of oneself, a gift for creating the right mood or physical tone .

For many who have been dancing for a long time, often and regularly, dance becomes a way of life and a way of self-discovery.

But often dancing is rarely associated with a person's spiritual quest.

This is explained by the fact that in Russian culture spirituality and dance are combined only in little-known dance directions: contact improvisation, authentic movement, mandala dance, traditional oriental, African and Indian dances.

But even in these directions, attempts to connect the awareness of one's inner deep non-emotional states are often limited to a general statement of fact:

yes, I'm in the flow, that's great.

What is this stream? Where does it come from and how to interact with it in dance and life?

The ability to feel one's energies in dance allows a person to be aware of internal energies and come to an understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships of events in life. I'll give you an example.

Let's say you're dancing go-go.

Music is playing, people are also dancing, inspired by your movements. The DJ masterfully mixes music tracks, filigree complementing the composition with his original samples.

— Where is the place of spirituality here? asks the orthodox skeptic.

- Everywhere! - I will answer.

You can dance instinctively, or you can be aware of specific energies that you manifest and broadcast into the surrounding space.

Manifest the energies of the heart and they will inflame the hearts of other people.

Manifest the swirling energies rising from below your torso and people will be inspired to new achievements in everyday life.

And, most importantly, it also allows you to quickly transform your own life, discovering its new facets.

Even more interesting are examples from pair dances.

Those partners who are faced with the problem that good leading partners are a rarity, can confirm that leading in a pair dance is not so much a partner's technicality as his special invisible inner core.

Thanks to him, a man either clearly makes it clear what he wants from you, or incomprehensibly “mumbles”, shifting the responsibility for leading to his muscle memory and the skill of his partner. Leading a partner is closely related to the energy of his intention.

Note to partners

If you want to lead in such a way that your partner enters the pieces you are directing her to, put your strength not into movement, but into the energy of intention. Try to listen more often to the area of intention in the lower abdomen, like a fiery cauldron from which an obelisk of light points the way for your partner.

Note to partners

If you want to understand your partner better, direct your attention to the area of his intention at the bottom of his body, approximately at the level of the navel — from there the partner sets the vector where he wants to lead you. Difficult but interesting. Explore.

Remark. Describe in words these sensations that arise from leading at the expense of energy. But if you want to learn more, write to me or start with a free meditation audio course.

Of course, in order to feel concrete manifestations of different energies in motion, you first have to get acquainted with them in a relaxed state of the body.

In energy classes, we sit in a comfortable position and get acquainted with meditation techniques that you can repeat in dance. And sometimes we dance if we meet at a seminar face to face.
