How to hit the woah dance

The best and worst of the 'hit the woah' challenge

Every couple of months there's a new viral dance craze. We've had the Harlem shake, Milly rock, dabbing, the whip/nae nae, the mannequin challenge, and how could we forget about flossing? Now we've got the "hit the woah" challenge, and it's taking the internet by storm.

The trend started on TikTok and has since spread far beyond the platform. For anyone not versed in this phenomenon, hitting the woah is when a dancer makes a quick, small circular motion with their fists and leans into a freeze position when the beat drops in a song.

Here is an instructional video on how to execute this move.

Analysis of Neverwinter Nights 2 - A well-deserved "oblivion" or a warm-up before Dragon Age 4 — Games on DTF

2179 views

The release of Neverwinter Nights 2 in 2006 went almost unnoticed against the backdrop of The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion and Gothic 3. I suspect that the players were tired of slow and overloaded party RPGs with mechanics, so the market began to be saturated with unpretentious Action RPGs with simplified gameplay (in including the first Witcher, yes, yes, don't be surprised). Today I will try to figure out what went wrong with this game.

Introduction to the

Series

Neverwinter Nights 1

I found the first part when I bought the disc in transition to 1CD, around 2003. It was my first BioWare game, but it didn't really stick in my memory. I remember only the same interior decorations inside the houses. I played for a long time, but soon got lost where to run in the story in a large open area. Since there were definitely no markers where to run in the role-playing games of those years. Take Tes 3 and Gothic 1-2 for example. This, however, was a common problem in such Action-RPGs in multiplayer games of those years, in the spirit of Nox or DarkStone, none of them went through to the end in the early zero. In the same Star Wars Kotor 1 or 2 from BioWare, in fact, it is impossible to get lost. Since the game was made primarily for the Xbox console. Which in turn is a plus. A teenager of those years will definitely not get lost.

Introduction to part 2

Necromancers sometimes meet us on the way

BioWare gave the second part in the tradition of Obsidian Entertainment, which, as we know, had already happened with Star Wars Kotor 1 and 2. At one time, I stole the game from a couple in college, during which time I burned it to myself on a DVD (I remember next to folder dangled offline version of World of Warcraft). However, in connection with my studies, then my hands, as they say, are really so full and did not reach the game. The computer of those years I could hardly pull the entry on the "bottom of the city". At about the same time, I bought additional 256 MB of RAM for Gothic 3, which, thanks to the open world, initially went almost worse for me, in the form of a slideshow. Only TES 4 went more or less from memory, and even then it was close to the minimum. I still remember those wax faces. Even bought a computer a year later, did not improve the situation much.

Orcs in the game will be the same as in Gothic 3

My second coming to the game happened in 2010 after completing Dragon Age Origins, which brought back my interest in party RPGs. Although I did not expect that that game would come to me at all. And now, for about 12 years now, I periodically try to complete the game to the end. Maybe crowds of orcs spawning on the way interfere with progress. Just finished the first chapter.

Collected releases around 2006-2007

Gameplay and combat system

Despite the respectable age of 16, the game is still of great interest. The game has a choice of race and classes with the distribution of skill points. Later you can get a prestige class. You can play not only with a bird's eye view camera, but also run with a 3rd person camera from behind, as in modern Action-RPGs. The combat system is quite simple. As in a party RPG, left-click on opponents. Satellites will help automatically. You can assign spells or tricks in order of usefulness, whether it's slot 1, 2, and so on. You can give specific instructions to the party, for example, who should go ahead and who should stay at a distance. Gradually pumping, you can open new tricks and spells.

The main character is a little uprooted from fighting

There are no markers in the game where you need to run on the map, but thanks to the task log, it is always clear where you need to move on the global map. There are 4 characters in the party, it is desirable to balance the composition with a mage, a dwarf (dwarf) and a rogue. The game has a life hack to quickly heal the entire party with just one button, you need to rest while sitting for 5 seconds. This can be done almost everywhere, the main thing is to run a little away from the place of the recent battle. According to the plot, it is desirable to always have a companion who can open doors and locks (the rogue Nishka). Somehow, according to the plot, I definitely had to take a third-party paladin into the party. I removed the rogue and could not open one door just because of his absence, I had to return to the tavern through half a map (although it might have been necessary to use a master key, and even that is not a fact that would help).

Ogre looks straight out of Dragon Age

There are enough drop-down weapons and junk in the game. Some positions can be sold for 5 thousand coins, so soon the player's account will have 50-100 thousand coins. You can quickly get hold of powerful ammunition if you open chests along the way, without even buying anything from merchants. If you just run through the story, then you can not bother with all this and play on easy difficulty. The main thing is not to collect large groups of enemies on the way. You can't run away, you have to fight. Also, during heavy battles with bosses or NPCs, you can run away as the last surviving character from the battlefield so that the enemies lose interest in the hero (invisibility can be turned on). After a couple of minutes, the heroes will stand up automatically.

The magician in the party throws terrible spells

Plot

Between the plot there are cutscenes with the plans of villains

The plot is a road adventure of a small group of heroes, gradually new members will join the group. You will have to look for adventures all over the map of Neverwinter, ranging from small forests and villages to large cities. The heroes will also have their own fortress in the spirit of Dragon Age Inquisition. According to the plot, you will visit many locations, meet and chat with a dozen interesting characters. You will have to fight an army of orcs, an analogue of Daedra from other dimensions, necromancers, powerful opponents like the "King of Shadows" and even imagine ... dragons. The story takes between 40 and 60 hours, which is comparable to the first Dragon Age.

Did Kassandra move from that game to Dragon Age?

Causes of Oblivion ("Oblivion")

The game has portals in the spirit of Oblivion, even the race resembles Daedra

The game received a solid 82% from the press. But why is the series now almost forgotten and finally gone to the MMORPG? It would seem that before us is what is called the ancestor of the Dragon Age series. The answers are easy enough to find. Let's go through the points.

Cause 1. Game not released on consoles

Dragon Age, like Tes 4 Oblivion, left on the console in time and turned out to be. If you release the game only on PC, it's not a fact that the budget will be beaten off. Take Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines for example. There are also reverse examples, when The Witcher 1 successfully fired on the PC. In the European space, Sapkowski's work was quite popular, in the 2000s they even played a Polish TV series. Only in Russia the game was sold with a circulation of 1 million copies.

Reason 2. Little known setting

The "Forgotten Realms" setting, taken from the Dungeons & Dragons board game in 2006, failed to attract enough players, despite the release of two later "strike while the iron is hot" expansions. In those years, this game was more interesting for munchkins who like to understand games overloaded with mechanics (which is worth only a guide on the game from "LKI"). Let's not forget that a year later Bioware released Mass Effect for Xbox360 (a year later also on PC), which became a big hit in its genre. And such a fantasy setting was already quite common and scared off most buyers from the main markets of Europe and the United States. Personally, I don't remember much hype with this game on PC. Nevertheless, the game definitely deserves its attention and such a piece product should not be missed.

Cause 3: Bad release date

The game was released in a very busy season on October 31, 2006 (November 4 in Europe), almost at the time of the launch of the PS3. Of course you will say, what does the PS3 have to do with it? At that time, Gears Of War, for example, came out on the Xbox360, and Call Of Duty and other games. TES 4 Oblivion, by the way, was released on March 20, 2006 and its advertising campaign, as far as I remember, was carried out on a grand scale.

Reason 4. Optimization

Since we have a PC-exclusive, the picture in the game looks bright and colorful. Which sounds good in the present tense, but in 2006 few computers could run such a beautiful game as, in principle, Crysis a year later. There is no open world in the game, but the locations in the game are quite large. The game's (default) bird's-eye view had a pretty serious impact on performance. There are short downloads between levels, similar to Dragon Age.

Causes 5 and 6. Bugs and cut content

Due to publisher Atari's deadline of October 31st, publisher Atari had to turn in the game on time. The developers did not have time to implement everything that they planned in the game, there were also unpleasant bugs, such as scripts that did not work. Some of the content, like locations with quests (the continuation of Qvara's quest), was simply cut out, some of the content appeared only in add-ons. The novel with Nishka also hit the knife (as a word later, novels in Outer Worlds, Obsidian do not learn anything).

Sound and Music

The music in the game is catchy, starting with the theme in the main menu. Even the compositions in the caves are worth listening to again. Cheerful music plays in the tavern. The sounds of the environment and the battles in the game, as it should be for real blockbusters, are on top. Everything gurgles and explodes as if for real. By the way, the game is fully voiced in Russian.

Dialogue example

Summing up

King Alistair from Dragon Age?
