Actor Vijay has garnered thousands of fans, irrespective of age and gender, thanks to his dancing skills. In fact, before people noticed his acting capabilities, it was his dancing style that grabbed the attention of people. He has made some quirky moves fancy, and he has also matched steps with choreographers such as Prabhu Deva and Raghava Lawrence. In fact, Prabhu Deva had Vijay dance with Akshay Kumar for one of the songs in Rowdy Rathore.

He is known to take to any style of dancing easily and watching him onscreen, even the more complicated sequences looks effortless. On his 44th birthday, here are 10 dance moves that the actor made famous in his career.

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

This movie was one of the first breaks that Vijay got as an actor. In this romantic drama, which also starred Shalini, his simple hook step in one of the songs, soon became his signature step. Today, there are memes around this particular step and anyone who mimics the actor surely imitates this one step.

Kushi

Be it the fun song Macarina Macarina with Shilpa Shetty or Kattipudi Kattipudi with Mumtaz in this film, Vijay’s dancing was wonderful. Kids would especially love the former for its peppy beat.

Kaththi

In Kaththi, Vijay is shown to fall in love with a girl, pretty much a case of love at the first sight and is unable to hold his joy. As is the case in our films, he bursts into a song. Composed by Anirudh and sung by Hip Hop Adhi, it has some crazy dancing by Vijay.

Turning dance into animation: encoding and decoding in a choreographic studio | Other

You see the experiments of Rodrigo Carvalho - an unusual fusion of choreography and generative graphics.
To create new dance techniques, it is not enough to combine the efforts of engineers and dancers. From Merce Cunningham, who pioneered the use of the LifeForms computer program in his choreography, to digital dance hybrids such as Troika Ranch (Dawn Stoppiello/Dawn Stoppiello/ Mark Coniglio).

The Motion Bank project can become the next step in the development of dance technologies. Choreographer William Forsythe launched a four-year project in Frankfurt to create a choreographic database using Kinect. This tool was not chosen by chance: Kinect is a great technology for the final transformation of digital movements into dance. Regular cameras are too clumsy to collect any meaningful data, and high-end tracking cameras are not only expensive, but also too crude and not flexible enough. Kinect is a tool that you can put in a rehearsal room and start using right away.

The Motion Bank project was created in collaboration with research institutes and choreographers such as Deborah Hay, Jonathan Barrows / Matteo Fargion, Bebe Miller and Thomas Howert. Motion Bank is an open project. The developed datasets are the movements of the dancers, converted into digital form, which allows you to reuse these movements, impose them on the artists, create digital sculptures "out of thin air".

In November 2013, the Z Centrum in Frankfurt hosted a choreographic lab, one of the latest events in the Motion Bank project dedicated to choreographic coding.

Among the project coordinators were Zach Lieberman, a VJ from New York, founder of OpenFrameworks. Germany also did not stand aside: Cedrik Kiefer and Christian Loclair from the Berlin studio Onformative took part in the project; NODE Forum and other organizations.
It's good when a project has talented coordinators, but it's much more interesting to look at the potential opportunities of the project through the eyes of the participants. Last month, Rodrigo Carvalho from Porto shared with the public his experience of participating in this project:

Perhaps the vagueness of the goals makes the project even more beautiful. These works can be considered digital as the dancer's movements are coded, but these codes can be converted into something completely different from the original. They allow you to look at the dance from the other side. But the most difficult thing in this process is to teach the machines to see the movements that the dancer makes.
