Just Dance 2016 - Nintendo Wii

Game review Just Dance 2016: everyone dances!

Just Dance is not only the 2008 musical hit by Lady Gaga, but also an incredibly popular series of dance games around the world, developed by the French publisher Ubisoft. To be honest, I have loved this series with all my heart since its debut in 2009 and quite often turn it on for my guests in the middle of a party. This fall, the seventh game of the main series, called Just Dance 2016, went on sale. It will offer fans several new modes, 43 wonderful music tracks, as well as a small but very pleasant surprise for the Russian-speaking audience.

In 2009, no one could have imagined that creating a dance simulator for friendly companies could turn out to be such a huge success. Publisher Ubisoft made their bet and did not lose! Since then, many games from the main series have appeared, as well as a whole bunch of its offshoots, such as the Just Dance Kids collection of dances for children, the Just Dance: Disney collection of music tracks from Disney cartoons, as well as stand-alone games dedicated to popular artists and groups. This honor was awarded to ABBA, The Black Eyed Peas and Michael Jackson. The total sales of the series to date exceed 40 million copies.

If you're the kind of person who's embarrassed to look stupid or simply avoid hanging out with their friends, then Just Dance isn't for you. But if you are a sociable person, not bound by complexes and puritanical views, this game can be a real revelation for you. And do not tell me that such entertainment is stupid and pointless. You can't convince me that the Just Dance series is one of the most amazing ways to entertain your guests. What gives people joy and positive emotions cannot be bad by default.

The essence of the game is incredibly simple, but no less ingenious. The player selects a musical composition from a list of tracks available to him, unique for each new game, after which a character appears on the screen, performing a dance to this music. A player or a group of several people must follow the movements of the dancer in such a way as if they see their reflection in a mirror. At the same time, the game tracks their movements and awards points for correctly and timely performed elements of the dance. At the end of each gaming session, the winner with the most points is selected from the participants. It should be noted that without exception, all dances are accompanied by a stylized visual range, when something is constantly happening on the screen: the scenery changes, something moves somewhere, and in some cases, the dancers themselves undergo transformations during the dance. It all looks incredibly bright and impressive.

The Just Dance series owes its origin to the Nintendo Wii, as it brought the joy of movement to the gaming industry. The Wii Remote game controller, which each player took in his right hand, allowed him to track his movements in real time. With the release of the Just Dance series on other gaming platforms, it began to support the Kinect sensor, the PlayStation Move controller, as well as the PlayStation Camera. Each control method has its own advantages and disadvantages. But no matter what you play, you will be able to get your portion of joy from the game.

Just Dance 2016 for the Sony PlayStation 4 game console that I got my hands on has three control options. The first involves the use of the PlayStation Camera, which, thanks to the presence of two optical sensors, is now able to see three-dimensional objects in space. To be honest, I didn't really like this one. There was a feeling that the camera perceives your every movement as successful. For the sake of experiment, I turned on one of the dances and just sat motionless on the sofa. My wife was standing next to me, holding our little daughter in her arms. For some reason, the camera considered that the main player is a child. In a couple of minutes, my one-year-old daughter “danced” a good rating in the game, without getting off her mother’s hands and practically without moving. What accuracy of reading movements can we talk about here?

I liked the second and third control options much more. In the first case, you can use the PlayStation Move controllers. Yes, those very funny elongated things with luminous spheres, which everyone has almost forgotten about. But in vain! Since with the release of the PlayStation VR virtual reality headset, the demand for them will increase dramatically. Mark my words. For dancing, you will need one of these controllers per person. But not every player in the house has a PS Move, which imposes some restrictions on this method. The third option is the most accessible of all presented. You can use your iOS or Android smartphone as a controller. Just download the Just Dance Controller app from the App Store or Google Play and you're done! To sync your smartphone with the set-top box, they must be connected to the same wireless network. The experiment showed that if the set-top box is connected to the router with a cable, nothing will come of it. Only Wi-Fi and nothing else. Another small inconvenience is that during the game your smartphone must be turned on, that is, you will not be able to turn on the application and lock the screen to save battery.

The tracklist for Just Dance 2016 includes 43 new songs. And I must immediately warn refined music lovers: all this is pure pop music with rare exceptions. But, as for me, modern pop music can be quite good. The game's tracks include such hits as "All About That Bass" by Megan Trainor, "Blame" by John Newman, "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga, "Circus" by Britney Spears, "Lights" by my British favorite Ellie Goulding and "Same Old Love » Selena Gomez. In addition to popular compositions, which are now actively played on all TV channels and radio stations, there are also quite funny compositions here. For example, you can perform the dance of the birds from Angry Birds to the well-known melody from the game, or you can dance the once popular Ievan Polkka performed by the virtual Japanese singer Hatsune Miku. Personally, I was very pleased with the presence in the game of one of my favorite compositions "Hit the Road Jack" by Ray Charles. Well, the main surprise of the Russian release was the presence in the game of the first in its history Russian-language composition "Smile" by the IOWA group. I have known the soloist of this musical group Katya Ivanchikova for quite a long time, so I am sincerely happy for the guys. This is really a big success for their group.

In addition to the music that comes with the game, you can access a library of 150 additional tracks. True, for this you will have to pay a subscription to the Just Dance Unlimited service. A three-month subscription for this pleasure costs 974 rubles (the price is relevant for the PlayStation 4 console at the time of writing the review). The game comes with a code to activate a one-month subscription, so you can try the service for free and decide if it's worth it. I was a little saddened by the fact that compositions from the Unlimited service are downloaded from the Internet on the go, which is why at the very beginning the video is displayed in the lowest resolution, and only after a while the picture reaches full HD quality. The lack of pre-loading video in maximum quality somewhat spoils the impression of the service.

The fact that the dances are divided into subgroups should be mentioned. Some are designed to ensure that all participants in the game repeat the movements of one dancer on the screen, and in some cases several virtual characters are dancing on the screen at the same time. In such cases, before the start of the dance, the players distribute roles among themselves, after which they have to repeat the movements of only the character on the screen to which they are attached. You can dance as one, two, three or four characters at once. While dancing for a group of characters, players will have to interact with each other, and here it all depends on how friendly your company is and how much you trust each other. Maximum fun, of course, is guaranteed only when you are all in a great mood. Dull bores have no place here.

Among the new game modes is Dance Quest, during which you have to compete with opponents controlled by AI. At the very beginning, you choose the difficulty level, and the game looks for three random songs from the available list of tracks for you to dance without interruptions. Quite a serious test for a battered alcoholic in my face, but I heroically withstood it and even took first place among my virtual opponents in terms of the number of points earned. You can use the points you literally earn with sweat and blood to unlock additional music and unique avatars. Also, bonus tracks can be unlocked using the Ubisoft Club service (nee Uplay), performing certain tasks during the passage of the game.

Another new game mode is Showtime. Well, it's not exactly a game, but rather a nice bonus. In this mode, you can dance in front of the PlayStation Camera, Kinect sensor, or Wii U Gamepad camera and sing your favorite songs, and then the game will automatically create a full-fledged video clip from the footage with special effects and transitions that you can show to friends or members of your families. Entertainment is strictly for those who like to grimace in front of the camera or visit a karaoke bar, but among the crazy audience of Just Dance 2016 there will certainly be such. By the way, even when you dance in normal mode, the game carefully records the funniest moments of your dance, and at the end it offers to publish the resulting video clip on the Ubisoft server, from where other players can download it and even give you a “like” if you impress them. In the Just Dance TV section, you can watch videos of dances by other players from all over the world. And believe me, there is something to see here.

Just Dance 2016 has an unusual mode called The Sweat and Playlists, where the game will count the calories you burn while dancing. Of course, you will have to dance in the most honest way, repeating as accurately as possible all the movements demonstrated by the dancer on the screen. You can create a training program for yourself for every day and just move to your favorite songs, while losing extra pounds. After three or four dances in a row, the sweat pours from you in a stream, so there is definitely a sense in this. If you feel that you have become quite an experienced dancer and are ready to show your talent to the world, take part in the World Video Challenge mode. To do this, you need to perform the dance as effectively as possible, and upload its video to the game server, inviting the rest of the players to beat your record.

In promotional videos for the game, we are shown an ideal situation in which a few people are dancing in front of a TV set in a huge room with minimal furniture. In reality, things look a little different. Most Russian apartments are rather cramped, and a company of four tipsy people is not always placed in front of the TV. For example, after moving to a new apartment, I specially designed the living room space in such a way to leave free space for such entertainment. I think that such a “rearrangement” can be carried out even in the cramped domestic apartment. Believe me, I did it even in Khrushchev. The main thing while dancing in a tight space is not to cripple each other with game controllers, not to step on a cat and not to knock down a chandelier from the ceiling with a graceful wave of your hand.

  • A cool track list where everyone will find something pleasant for themselves.
  • Wonderful staging of dances and their original incarnation on the screen.
  • The perfect game for a friendly party or family vacation.
  • Several new modes will pleasantly diversify the familiar gameplay.
  • High-quality and very bright graphics of the game will definitely cheer you up.
  • You can be the star of your own music video in Showtime.
  • Ability to use a smartphone as a game controller.

  • Maybe the game will make you buy a bigger apartment.
  • PlayStation Camera or Kinect required to access all modes.
  • Unable to purchase individual compositions.
  • Problems downloading videos from Just Dance Unlimited.
  • Forcing paid subscriptions to fans of the series.
  • Player movements are not always accurately recognized.

Despite some of its shortcomings, Just Dance 2016 still remains in my eyes one of the best entertainment for a good company. This is a bright, cheerful game, full of great music and incendiary dances. With the help of the Just Dance series, absolutely anyone can feel like a dance floor star. There would be a good mood and a couple of true friends ready for madness in front of the TV screen. I give the game 8 points out of 10 and, as usual, I start to wait for Just Dance 2017, which will be released next fall.

Crashes out of the app

Good afternoon, before it was completely easy to play. Now throws out of the application as soon as you connect. (iPhone 11). Tried updating, doesn't help.

Apple Watch support

It is already necessary to make support for the watch, because their 5th generation has already been released!
phones are huge in size and holding different movements in your hand is dangerous both for other players and for the phone because it will slip out and break!!!!
do support the more there are all the conditions for development and sensors in the clock !!!

The phone does not connect to Just dance on a laptop!!!

Why can't the phone connect now?! Does anyone have it connected?
