Do I need a partner to learn to dance?

No, you need not need a partner to learn to dance. At Arthur Murray, you can learn to dance on your own or with someone special. Whether you are a single, couple, or have a partner that isn’t interested in learning to dance, you are welcome to join us and learn. We have a great community of dancers and a welcoming environment that includes all types and ages of people.

What do I wear for my dance lessons?

While our instructors dress in business attire, our students wear a variety of things: anything from jeans and a t-shirt, to work attire, to getting all dressed up for a night out of dancing. For shoes, just make sure you wear something that won’t slip off your feet while dancing. Ballroom dancing shoes are not required.

How long does it take to learn to dance?

It totally depends on how quickly you learn, how good you’d like to become, and how many dances you’d like to learn. Just to learn a few basics only takes a handful of lessons. To be comfortable dancing to any music with any partner, that takes about 6 months to a year. After your first lesson, your instructor will be able to recommend the quickest way to get to your dancing goals.

What dances do you teach?

We teach everything you can do with a partner! Ballroom dancing encompasses all styles of partner dance including, but not limited to traditional ballroom like the waltz and tango as well as latin, swing, country western, and many other styles. Visit our Dances We Teach page to learn more.

What can I expect on my first lesson?

Your first visit to the school gives you a chance to check out the studio facilities, experience how we teach, and make sure that it's an atmosphere you feel comfortable learning to dance in. It's also a chance for your instructors to see how you learn and make recommendations to give you the best service possible. Even if you've never danced before, you'll be dancing on your very first lesson.

What is the easiest ballroom dance to learn?

While there are a few dances we recommend learning after you’re more acquainted with the basics, MOST styles of dance are actually very simple to learn. Your instructor will be able to recommend the best dances to learn based on what events you might have coming up as well as the style of music you enjoy. Can you teach ballroom dancing to beginners?

Absolutely! Arthur Murray has a fool-proof method developed over 100 years that can truly teach ANYONE to learn to dance. Even if you have two left feet and no rhythm, you CAN learn to dance. The hardest step is the first one through the door. Just show up and we’ll take care of the rest!

Do you teach ballroom dancing for kids?

Yes! Ballroom dancing is a great skill to learn at a young age. It helps to learn coordination, manners, and socialization. We do recommend that they start ballroom dancing once they reach age 5.

Is ballroom dancing good exercise?

Yes! Ballroom dancing is great exercise. Whether you are looking to lose weight, stay fit, or rehabilitate, dancing is a great low-impact exercise. It’s also one of the only physical exercises that’s proven to help stave off degenerative diseases like alzheimer's and dementia. Whatever your health goals, dancing can help.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Who will be my teacher?

Arthur Murray instructors are the best teachers in their field. Not only do they undergo a rigorous training and certification program, but are consistently trained in the best teaching practices, dance techniques, and dance trends to give you the best instruction and experience possible. Our layered system of teaching is second to none and makes it easy for you to get on the dance floor, fast, and look good while doing it.

What type of music can you ballroom dance to?

Pretty much everything. Partnered dancing can be done to Big Band, Latin, 80’s, Top 40, Classic Rock ‘N Roll, Bossa Nova, Motown, Disco, Country Western, etc. If there is a beat, you can learn to dance to it! Check out our Dances We Teach page for more info.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy. The first step is to schedule an introductory lesson & evaluation with one of our trained instructors. During this session, your instructor will determine your current dancing level and recommend an appropriate course for you to continue. The cost for this introductory class is only $25. Can I really learn to dance?

Of course you can! Dancing is as easy as walking once you are taught how by an Arthur Murray expert. We teach simple, basic elements, from which the steps are derived. Hundreds of thousands of people have been successfully trained in Arthur Murray Dance Studios. There is no age limit. Many of the oldest students are over 70. The youngest are usually in their early teens.

How long will it take?

The length of your course will depend on how many dances you want to learn and how proficient you wish to become in each dance. However, you will be able to dance after your first lesson.

How much do lessons cost?

Tuition varies, depending on a number of factors e.g., how good you want to be, what dances you want to learn, and your dance schedule. Remember – YOUR FIRST LESSON IS ONLY $25. After that lesson, your instructor will be in a better position to recommend a program and you’ll have the knowledge to make an intelligent and informed choice. General Variety programs begin at $540, however there are many options available. We have something for everyone.

How will I benefit from my dancing?

Dancing is an investment in yourself. It is our first line of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a wonderful physical conditioner, providing fun without working at it! It opens up a great new world of togetherness and an exciting year-round social calendar!

Will I learn the latest steps?

You can learn the very latest steps in any social dance – Salsa, Swing, Hustle, Samba, Merengue, Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Waltz, Tango, and others. Did you know that Arthur Murray dancers are trend-setters in the dance world, AND we’ve lent our style to some of the biggest movies and TV shows to come out of Hollywood, like the recent hits “Shall We Dance?” and “Dancing With The Stars”?

After I learn to dance, will I still have to return to learn the newest steps?

After getting a good foundation, you will be able to analyze the new steps and pick them up yourself without difficulty. However, many students return or continue because they enjoy their lessons and the dancing friends they’ve acquired.

When can I take lessons?

You can take your lessons any time you wish. The Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Fort Worth is open Monday-Thursday, lessons start at 1:00pm and end at 10:00pm. On Friday we have lessons from 4:00pm to 10:00 pm. We are also open Saturdays, from 10:00am to 3:00 pm!

Will I have a good teacher?

Yes. All Arthur Murray teachers must complete an arduous training regimen, making them very competent. Each teacher is able to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Your teachers will be selected to best suit your particular needs and style of learning.

Is it hard to learn?

The Arthur Murray System uses 4 Elements of dancing, and out of these simple Elements, all dances are derived! That’s it! This system has been tested and honed since 1912 — it is the fastest and most effective method of teaching!

Who is Arthur Murray?

Arthur Murray started a dance contributor in 1912 in Manhattan (USA).

In 1920, the band of wines organized a first dance radio broadcast with live music in the world.
