Simple Gifts is a Shaker song written by the Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett. Since its composition, Simple Gifts has been adapted several times by several artists including Sydney Carter, who adapted the melody into his song “Lord of the Dance”. This piano arrangement is upper intermediate to advanced difficulty and is a wonderful example of lyrical and powerful piano elements. Play it as a show piece for great effect!
Lyrics:
I danced in the morning when the world was young
I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun
I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he
I danced for the scribes and the Pharisees
They wouldn’t dance, they wouldn’t follow me
I danced for the fishermen James and John
They came with me so the dance went on
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he
I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame
The holy people said it was a shame
They ripped, they stripped, they hung me high
Left me there on the cross to die
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he
I danced on a Friday when the world turned black
It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
They buried my body, they thought I was gone
But I am the dance, and the dance goes on
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he
They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that will never, never die
I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me
I am the Lord of the dance, said he
Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he

poster 2022-2023 with piano, tickets
The forerunners of the piano were the harpsichords and later invented clavichords. Their faults were quickly a fading sound that interfered with legato playing, and a constant volume level that eliminated one of the important expressive means of music - dynamics (volume change).
The mechanics of the modern piano was invented by the Italian master Cristofori around 1709, in his design the hammers were under the strings. The construction was named gravicembalo col piano e forte, whence the modern title. Similar systems were developed by Marius in France (1716) and Schroeter in Germany (1717-1721).
Erar invented the double rehearsal mechanism, which allowed the sound to be produced by rapidly re-pressing a key. (in previous instruments, the hammer moved slowly away from the string, and this was not possible). In the course of development to pedals were added to the instrument.
In Russia, the production of pianoforte is associated with the activities of the masters Tischner and Virta in 1818-1820.
Today, major piano manufacturers have their own slightly different versions of piano mechanics.
In the 20th century, fundamentally new instruments appeared - electronic pianos and synthesizers, as well as a special form sound extraction - prepared piano.
The first piece of music written specifically for the piano appeared in 1732 (Lodovico's sonata Giustini). However, in droves, composers began to focus on the piano rather than the harpsichord, forty or fifty years later, in the days of Haydn and Mozart.
Piano mechanics
Sound in the piano is made by striking the strings with a hammer. The strings are strung with pegs on a resonant deck. (In a piano, the deck is in a vertical position, in grand pianos - in a horizontal position). For every sound there is chorus of strings: three for the middle and high ranges, two or one for the low.
Most pianos have a range of 88 semitones from the A subcontroctave to the 5th octave (older instruments may be limited to the 4th octave A note from above; you can find tools with a wider range). In the neutral position, the strings, except for the last one and a half to two octaves, are in contact with the dampers.
When the keys are pressed, a device of levers, straps and hammers, called the pianoforte, is activated. mechanics. After pressing, the damper is separated from the corresponding chorus of strings, so that the string can sound freely, and a hammer upholstered with felt (felt) strikes it.
Piano pedals
Modern pianos have two or three pedals. In earlier tools for the same purposes retractable levers were used, which the pianist had to press with his knees.
The right pedal (sometimes referred to simply as the "pedal" because it is used most often) raises all dampers so that after the key is released, the corresponding strings continue to sound. In addition, all the others the strings of the instrument also begin to vibrate, becoming a secondary source of sound.
The right pedal is used for two purposes: to make the sequence of sounds produced inseparable (legato playing) where it is impossible to do it with your fingers due to technical difficulties, and enrich the sound with new overtones.
There are two ways to use the pedal: direct pedal - pressing the pedal before pressing the keys you want to delay, and delayed, when the pedal is pressed immediately after the key is pressed and before it is released.
In sheet music, this pedal is denoted by the letter P (or the abbreviation Ped.), and its removal is indicated by an asterisk. In the music of composers eras of romanticism and impressionism, these designations are often found, usually to give the sound a special flavor.
The left pedal is used to attenuate the sound. In grand pianos, this is achieved by shifting the hammers to the right, so that instead of the three strings of the choir, they strike only two (in the past, sometimes only one). Hammers in the piano approach the strings. This pedal is used much less often.
In sheet music, it is marked una corda, its removal is marked tre corde or tutte le corde. In addition to easing sound, using the left pedal while playing the piano can soften the sound, make it warmer and beautiful due to the vibration of the released strings of the choir.
The middle pedal (or the third one, since historically it was added last), or the sostenuto pedal, serves to selective raising dampers. When the middle pedal is depressed, the dampers raised by pressing the keys remain raised before the pedal is removed. It, like the right pedal, can be used for playing legato, but will not enrich the sound. vibration of other strings.
This pedal is absent from most pianos today and is present on most grand pianos. The pianos meet which the middle pedal “slides” to the left and thus is fixed, while between the hammers and the strings a special fabric is placed, due to which the sound becomes very quiet, which allows the musician to play, for example, at night.

The most beautiful volleyball player in Kazakhstan openly spoke about terrible injuries
NUR-SULTAN, April 15 - Sputnik, Artur Shishiga. Kazakhstan women's volleyball team player Kristina Karapetyan shared her plans to continue her career in an exclusive interview with Sputnik Kazakhstan.
- Christina, let's try to start over. Why choose volleyball?
- My mother has a volleyball grade. She took me with her to training, because sometimes there was no one to leave me with, and I liked it there. Nevertheless, my mother did not allow me to play volleyball, because then I was playing the piano, and thin and beautiful fingers are needed there. Plus, she was dancing at the same time, so there was simply no time. Then, when I moved from Chara to Chita, a girl approached me at school, who had already played in Zabaikalka, and offered to try to start playing volleyball. I agreed, as the set was just going on. I started training in February with the younger ones, and in June, with the "older age", I went to the training camp. This is how my professional volleyball started.

- You mentioned piano and dancing. Are you doing this now?
- I quit the piano myself because I hated solfeggio. I liked playing, but I couldn’t stand theory, but one cannot exist without the other, so I quit. She quit dancing because she had a fight with the coach, and they were tired of it at that time. Thanks to dancing, I have a good stretch, a sense of rhythm, so I still love to dance.

- You played for the youth team of Russia, but decided to move to Kazakhstan. What was the reason for this decision?
- My contract with Enisey was ending, I wanted to end my career altogether. The season was unsuccessful, constantly sitting on the bench. There was fierce competition in Russia, I did not know what to do next. Agent Tkachenko contacted me and offered two options in Kazakhstan: Astana (now Nur-Sultan) and Pavlodar. The financial offers were the same. I googled where the teams usually rank, who the coach is, the composition of the players. In Astana at that time there was a coach whom I knew. He usually has a lot of injuries, because he has a tough approach, so there was no desire to go to him. I decided to move to Irtysh, where I played for a year. It was my best season in my career. At the end of the championship, they offered to change citizenship. I moved to "Zhetysu", and they began to deal with the issues of my documents.
- Do you miss Russia?
- She lived in Chara for ten years, in Chita for eight years, in Krasnoyarsk for four years, and for all the time she did not become attached to any of the cities. Moving to Kazakhstan was very easy, they speak Russian here, so there is no feeling that I am in a foreign country.
- How long have you been at home?
- When I left Chita, I transferred to correspondence studies at the university, so I had to come once a year to close the sessions. Therefore, every year I come to Chita to visit my parents. My grandmother lives in Chara, I see her less often, because it is far and expensive to fly there. This year, because of the coronavirus, I don’t know when I will get to Chita. I have never been to Krasnoyarsk since I left.
A new "cute" from Kazakhstan turned the heads of the fans at the Asian Games
- This season you got an injury to your cruciate ligaments. Now you are recovering in Almaty. Is it at the expense of the club? Do you have a valid contract with Irtysh?
- I had another year of contract with Irtysh, but after I got injured, by mutual decision of the parties, they decided to break it. To be honest, I myself did not want to continue playing, even if they asked me to stay. Therefore, I am without a contract, recovering with my own money.

- Why did you move to Almaty?
- My husband played this year in Burevestnik in Almaty, it is not yet clear whether his contract will be extended to next year. I like Almaty more than other cities of Kazakhstan, I wanted to anchor here, as they say. I could still play in other countries, but I would like to return to Almaty. If my husband and I had not managed to arrive in Almaty for quarantine before the closure of the city, then I can’t imagine how I would now be recovering in Pavlodar.
- How is your recovery going? What are the dates given by the doctors?
- I have nowhere to hurry. The doctor who is rehabilitating me says that in August-September I will be in shape. It all depends on when the quarantine is lifted, because soon I will need a gym. While I am recovering at home - massage, exercise therapy. According to the doctor, the progress is good, the leg bends ninety degrees under its own weight. The only negative is that the quadriceps muscle does not work yet. According to the plans in mid-May, you need to get to the gym.
- Do you plan to continue playing volleyball?
- It was a very difficult year, there were constant salary delays, I was on a replacement. At the beginning of the season, the hand twisted, missed the Super Bowl, then pulled the calf, could not play, everything ended with a torn cruciate ligament. The whole season was on my nerves, so I wanted to finish everything quickly and escape from Pavlodar. Now I have a little rest and I have a wild desire to recover and play one more season, and then how it will turn out.
A daring photo session was arranged by a Kazakh athlete
- Are you currently working with an agent or will you be looking for a club yourself?
- If I continue in Kazakhstan, I will find a club myself. Moreover, everyone here works without agents, so that the clubs do not spend extra money. If we talk about abroad, there is one Polish agent with whom we are in touch. Even before the injury, in January, I wanted to leave to finish playing in the Philippines. But it didn’t work out there, they took an American. Now there are options with Turkey, Indonesia. They also offered China, but there are wild loads, with almost no rest training. I'm not eighteen anymore, so I don't want to lose all my health in one season.

- The best volleyball player in Kazakhstan in your opinion?
- Anarkulova Sana. She has all the strengths for a good volleyball player.
- And in the world?
- I like Tijana Boskovic.
- Watch volleyball at your leisure?
- Very rare (laughs). I only watch my husband's games and follow the news of the Russian Superleague. I watched world volleyball, probably, for the last time at the Olympics.
- What sports do you watch in your free time?
- When I first moved to Pavlodar, I went to hockey, but then the desire disappeared. Therefore, now I don’t follow anything, there is enough volleyball. Now my leisure time has nothing to do with watching sports.
"Nyashka" Sabina Altynbekova left Kazakhstan: what does she do?
- In quarantine, I started studying. I am currently studying to be a targetologist, so there is not enough time for films or series. Two hours a day takes my recovery, then household chores and study. Plus I'm running a video blog, I need to film the exercises. Therefore, all the time is spent on self-development.

I have never seen The Lord of the Rings. Now we watch one part a day. In general, I rarely watch movies and series. I like to watch shows more, for example, Agent-show, various Comedy releases. I recently finished watching Breaking Bad, started watching seven years ago, now I've finished (laughs).
- You are active in social networks. What do they mean to you?
- I like being helpful, helping someone somewhere. Now the main topic on my Instagram is recovery. In the future, of course, I consider it as an opportunity to earn money.
- You often post provocative posts on Instagram. What is their purpose? Attract a new audience?
- I want people to not only look at my photos, but also read to the end everything I wanted to convey. Therefore, there must be some kind of trigger by which people opened the post and read something. I also studied copywriting, so in social networks I work out the skills to catch people and their attention.

- Do many fans write in direct?
- Yes, a lot has been written from Kazakhstan lately. Prior to that, they wrote from Indonesia, Turkey, mainly from Asia.
- Why am I talking about this. Volleyball player of the Kazakh national team Olga Drobyshevskaya said in an interview that she would like volleyball to be popularized through the game itself, and not through frank posts on social networks. What would you say to her?
- I agree with her. A volleyball player is first and foremost a professional player. I never aspired to be talked about as one of the most beautiful volleyball players. I don't do anything special for this. I always wanted my volleyball game to be noted first of all, and then my appearance.
Who became the most beautiful football player in Kazakhstan
- Are you satisfied with the way your career has turned out?
- Just two years ago I was very satisfied with my career. Recently, there has been a serious decline, I don’t know what it is connected with, but I am dissatisfied with myself. Recently I thought about why, when I arrived in Krasnoyarsk, I signed a contract for three years at once. It would be possible to change the country every year and see and learn a lot. So now I want to travel, see where and how everything works. There is a desire to come to a professional team, where there is an appropriate attitude towards the athlete, where there is all the medicine, where the player is taken care of.
- How low or high is everything you listed in Kazakhstan?
- It's different everywhere. In "Altai" and "Zhetysu" - a huge staff, everything is well-chosen. In "Irtysh" this is not the case, there is a doctor, a massage therapist, but there is no physiotherapist.
