Ubisoft unveiled Just Dance 2023 edition today at its Ubisoft Forward event. The game is the 14th title in a series that has sold more than 80 million copies.

The game will launch on November 22 on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The game is available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch at the Ubisoft Store. The game will also be available on Stadia at a later date.

This year, Just Dance enters a new era as a dance-on-demand platform, which will fuel players with free content updates on an ongoing basis and even more ways to get moving.

For the first time in the Just Dance franchise, players can enjoy the full game online with up to five of their friends or other players around the world with online groups.

Just Dance 2023 takes you into the danceverses.

All players will be connected to the host’s menu, allowing them to interact with one another through the new emote stickers system, choose songs and hit the dance floor together, no matter where they are located.

Online Groups will support cross-play, while players can continue to enjoy local multiplayer as well.

Just Dance has a new art style too with a focus on immersive3D worlds and intuitive navigation menus. It has an improved recommendation system where players can personalize playlists and curate songs.

Players can move up in the ranks with the brand-new progression system, allowing them to earn in-game points for each completed dance. These points will go toward unlocking new rewards, such as customizing dancer cards for the first time in Just Dance.

Players can personalize their dancer card to fit their own personality by modifying the avatar, background, name badge and alias. They can also redeem points to receive emote stickers, which can be used to communicate with other players in online groups.

Just Dance 2023 lets you create private groups for up to six people to dance online.

Just Dance will provide regular, ongoing updates so players an expect new game modes, songs and themed seasons for years to come. The game features 40 new songs and universes, from chart-topping hits, viral internet phenomena and original songs, including Physical by Dua Lipa, More by K/DA Ft. Madison Beer, (G)I-DLE, Lexie Liu, Jaira Burns & Seraphine; Can’t stop the feeling by Justin Timberlake; Love Me Land by Zara Larsson; Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars; Stay by The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber; and more.

The series has reached 140 million players since its debut in 2009. Ubisoft built the game with teams in Paris, Pune, Shanghai, and Bombay. It has more than 500 dances. In a press event, creative director Matthew Tomkinson and senior producer Claire Bjorn said the mission was to bring people more ways to dance in an effort to promote self-expression.

Just Dance 2023 Edition (also known in-game as Just Dance) is the fourteenth game in the main Just Dance series.

^[1] It is the final annual game as all future releases will be added through updates.^[2]^[3]

The game was revealed on September 10, 2022, as part of Ubisoft Forward. The game was released on November 22, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. A Google Stadia version was announced,^[4] but on September 29, 2022, Google announced that Stadia would be shutting down on January 18, 2023.^[5]

Online multiplayer: For the first time in the Just Dance franchise, players can enjoy the full game online with up to five other players around the world with Online Groups (online connection required). All players will connect to the host’s menu, allowing them to interact with each other through the new emote stickers system, choose songs, and hit the dance floor together, no matter where they're located. Rating Summary: This is a music-rhythm dancing game in which players perform choreographed routines by following the movements of on-screen characters. Players score points by accurately moving their bodies in time to the music and scrolling indicators. One dance routine depicts a character avoiding electrical attacks from a giant robot while using dance moves to cause the robot’s arms to explode. In another sequence, an animal is depicted sitting on a toilet reading a newspaper. Some songs contain the word “hell” and references to alcohol (e.g., “And I’m sippin’ on that bub”) and tobacco (e.g., “Exhale now I look like a smoker”)

Reception

The Nintendo Switch version of the game received a Metascore of 75 on review aggregator Metacritic.^[8] Critics noted the change to a live service model has potential but were mixed in how they felt about it now. Hardcore Gamer saw it as a positive because this will cost players less money in the long run, while GamersRD found the need to be connected to the Internet for the game to work frustrating.^[8] In a 69/100 review, SpazioGames criticized the game’s lack of features compared to its predecessors while still acknowledging the potential of the game. ^[8]

The Xbox website for Just Dance 2023 Edition initially stated that the game would be available for Xbox One, despite the official Twitter account and the official website stating otherwise. This was later fixed.

In promotional images, "YEAH" feedback icons are mixed with regular scores, despite the former only being obtainable when a Gold Move occurs.

The prizes included the game itself for Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 5, a customized JanSport backpack with the Just Dance logo, two pins (one with Panda’s head and one with a disco ball), and a set of stickers, which included emojis of Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), Oh No!, Physical, and Rasputin.^[13]

Can my friends and family play with me?

Your friends and family can dance with you by downloading the free Just Dance Now app on their smartphones. After installing the app, they will need to enter your dance room by scanning the QR code or by entering the dance room number displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.

How many people can join my game session?

There are no restrictions on the number of players!

How to play on the computer?

1. Download the app Just Dance Now on your smartphone (Android or iOS) and run it
2. Launch the Internet browser on your computer and go to www.justdancenow.com
3. On the website, you will see the room number and her QR code. This number and code is unique and created just for you. On request Z11:AA11application Just Dance Now scan the code and you will be connected to the dance room.

Note: You don't need a smartphone to play on Apple TV, but additional players can download the game to their smartphones and join your dance room (in the upper left corner of the screen).

What is a QR code?

A QR code is a 2D barcode. It looks like this:

In Just Dance Now QR codes are used to encrypt your dance room number. Before playing, you will be prompted to scan a code on the screen of your device (PC, TV or tablet) to automatically enter the dance room.

What is a "dance room number"?

The dance room number is a unique number displayed on the screen that you enter into your smartphone. Using this number, the smartphone connects to the screen and the game session starts.
This number appears on the second screen selected to play Just Dance Now (any screen connected to the Internet that can access JustDanceNow.com: Smart TV, computer, tablet, Apple TV, etc.).
