How to Measure Your Dancers:
Have dancers wear fitted attire (preferably a leotard–no street clothes!) with proper undergarments in order to ensure the most accurate measurements.
When measuring, instruct dancers to stand up straight, look forward, and take a deep breath in & out to allow for a natural fit and additional room. This is especially important when taking the girth, bust, and waist measurements.
- Girth - Girth is the most important measurement when determining size! To measure girth, place a tape measure at the top of the shoulder (typically where a standard leotard strap sits), then over the apex (fullest part of the chest), down through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder. Measuring tape should follow close to the body shape.
- Bust/Chest - Measure over the apex (fullest part of the chest) with your arms relaxed at your sides. Tape must be horizontal around the body.
- Waist - Find your natural waist breakpoint by bending to the side (typically 1" to 1 1/2" above the belly button). Stand straight and measure around your natural waist breakpoint. Make sure breathing is relaxed during this measurement. Tape must be horizontal around the body.
- Hips - Measure around the fullest part of the hips and buttocks while standing with your feet together. Tape must be horizontal around the body.
- Inseam - Measure from the center crotch point to floor for full length inseam and to center of ankle bone for ankle length inseam.
Sizing Tips For Success
- Watch our handy "How to Measure" video
- For consistency, select one person to take all measurements using the same measuring tape each time.
- Make finding the right fit even easier with our Studio-To-Stage Leotard Sizing Set (style STSSET) for dancewear and Spotlight Leotard Sizing Set (style SPLSET) for costumes and performance styles.
- When ordering a few months in advance, it’s recommended to add 1.5” to 2” to the girth measurement to account for growth (especially for little ones’ growth spurts). If dancers are between sizes, select the size that most closely corresponds to the girth measurement. And when in doubt, size up!
- Keep the type of fabric and silhouette in mind when ordering as dancers’ natural body variations can impact the overall fit.
- Take a photo of the entire group of dancers to use for size comparison and later reference.

How to measure your figure correctly Measured at the most protruding points. The centimeter should fit snugly, but without stretch, to the body. It is recommended to take measurements in the underwear with which you plan to wear the product.
From - Waist. Measured at the narrowest point, the measuring tape should be tightly wrapped around the waist.
About - Hips. Measured at the most convex points of the buttocks.
DTS - Length back to waist. In order to measure the length of the back to the waist, you need to tightly tie the lace to the waist line, and measure the distance from the seventh cervical vertebra to the lace.
Di – Product length. The length of the product is measured from the seventh cervical vertebra to the desired bottom of the product. In the figure, for example, the length of the product is taken just below the knee, but you measure to the point to which you want the product to be. If to the heel, then measure to the heel, if to the knee, then measure to the knee, etc.
