How Reggaeton Dance Came to Be
Originally Reggaeton was a musical genre combining reggae, dancehall and hip-hop rhythms. Jamaican immigrants who settled in Panama and Puerto Rico in the 1990s brought their own unique flavor to the culture of Latin America. The result is a dynamic recitative in Spanish. It is played to groovy rhythms that are very different from reggae, but they have an unmistakable Jamaican character. This combination turned out to be so incendiary that soon Reggaeton sounded at every party.
Then came the characteristic dance, which miraculously contains the traditions of three ethnic groups.
The sharp, defiant movements of American street dances are performed with the plasticity and openness characteristic of the Jamaicans, and the seductive hip thrusts betray the Spanish temperament. Characteristic features of the style
The dance is easy to recognize by its incendiary mood – tough and seductive at the same time. It has a lot of movements of the legs, hips and chest - sharp swings, jumps and lunges are combined with smooth waves and mesmerizing swaying. There may be elements from dancehall, hip-hop, latin, bachata, strip plastics and even acrobatics. For example, during the dance, the performer can sit on the splits - therefore, a good stretch is necessary for Reggaeton. The dance is passionate, frank and instantly kindles a fire in the eyes of the audience. Suitable for relaxed, daring and courageous natures, as well as those who want to discover these qualities in themselves.
