Polka, redova and choti are made in variants typical of the regional and national culture, which are manifested in the music and rhythm, as well as in the movements and costumes that are used in each of them..

In the case of picota and huapango, these are dances that were born in the region as a product of creole and aboriginal rhythms.

You may also be interested in the typical traditions of Tamaulipas or its culture.

1 pillory

This dance of pre-Columbian origin is one of the most representative in Tamaulipas and is danced in the central part of the state, in particular in Serrania de San Carlos.

Pillar, meaning a tall stick or column, taken from ancient native dances dedicated to the fertility of the earth.

This is dancing with bare feet or sandals to the rhythm of tambora and clarinet, the only instruments used in this musical rhythm. flowers, bright hems and lace. The men wear a white shirt and linen or cotton trousers, with leather sandals.

2- Huapango

This dance and musical rhythm is typical of the Huastec region. Huapango is a type of son who serves as a dancer and also tells jokes, laughs at humor and asks for bonuses..

This is a dance on a wooden platform to emphasize the sound of the zapateo while the troubadour sings. It is performed on musical instruments such as violin, jarana, fifth guitar and harp.

The most famous dance variants are the typical huapango or son huasteco played by the huasteco trio; northern huapango playing the northern band; and huapango mariachi.

3- Polka

This is a dance of Czech origin brought to Mexico by Europeans. In Tamaulipas he dances in a style typical of the region.

The movements of the dancers are strong and cheerful. He dances with a strong zapateado on the part of the man, while the women do the faldeo to give it more momentum and coquetería to the dance.

This dance imitates a rhythmic jump that is interrupted to change the pace and rhythm. The music that accompanies the polka is played with instruments such as accordion, saxophone, sixth bass and double bass, typical of Nordic music. It's an adaptation of rejdovak European, which had a boom in the second half of the nineteenth century.

It is a mixture of waltz and mazurka and works in 3/4 times, in moderate and haughty time. The difference with chotis is that it is binary, while redova is ternary.

Redova has very precise and harmonious movements that are combined with grandeur.
