A few months ago, Peta Murgatroyd collapsed on the floor and called 911. The 35-year-old Dancing with the Stars performer had recently tested positive for COVID-19, which had drained her strength and caused breathing problems. At the hospital, she learned something surprising — she was pregnant. But she immediately discovered the devastating news that she had miscarried, she told People.

"I ultimately had no idea (I was pregnant), which in hindsight was better for my recovery because I didn’t have that super joyous moment of, ‘I’m pregnant again!’" Murgatroyd told People. “I just had the moment of, ‘You lost it.’"

Harder still, husband, Maks Chmerkovskiy, 42, was in Ukraine and on the phone when the doctor delivered the news. Chmerkovskiy — who also dances on the reality competition — only heard the positive pregnancy test and felt elated before realizing they had lost the baby. Murgatroyd believes that COVID-19 made it tough for her to support the pregnancy.

"I felt like I was dying, but then I obviously knew what happened," she told People. "It was just all too much for my body."

The couple shares son Shai, 5, and hoped for a younger sibling for him. Murgatroyd reveals she has experienced two prior miscarriages in the past two years. The first occurred in a grocery store in fall 2020 and it sparked many complicated emotions.

"I was completely embarrassed, ultimately ashamed. I didn’t even know how to utter the words and have that sentence come out of my mouth: I had a miscarriage," Murgatroyd said. "I’m somebody who prides herself on health wellness. I exercise every single day. But as I came to realize, that doesn’t really go hand-in-hand with the reproductive system."

Murgatroyd lost her second pregnancy nine months later and when she told Chmerkovskiy she "heard him get really upset."

"I never thought that two healthy, athletic people could be in a predicament like this. It’s a lot to process," Chmerkovskiy told People.

“I honestly just got sick of hiding it. I found it was harder to conceal this secret than just ‘say it how it was’ so to speak. It became harder for me to keep a happy face on,” Murgatroyd said in an Instagram post about the story. “The first time I let it out of my mouth to a colleague I felt strangely better, like a piece of shame had chipped away. So I found the more people I told, the better I felt. I came to realize that there is nothing shameful about it.”

Murgatroyd said she has polycystic ovary syndrome, an endocrine condition that can contribute to infertility, among other symptoms. The couple is now working with fertility specialists and plan to undergo in vitro fertilization.

“For the first time in nearly two years, I feel excited,” Murgatroyd said. “I’m in a much happier place.”

The dancers met while working on Broadway’s Burn the Floor, which premiered in July 2009.

The New Zealand native joined Dancing With the Stars as a troupe dancer for season 12 of the series in 2011. She was upgraded to a pro the following season. Maksim, for his part, joined the show in 2009.

The couple began dating three years after they first met.

The duo split in 2013 after dating for 10 months.

The pair were spotted together in January 2015 with a source telling Us they had been “spending time together.” Four months later, a second source told Us that the couple were “fully back together.”

The Ukrainian dancer announced their engagement in December 2015. Chmerkovskiy popped the question at the end of a performance of Sway at the Olympia Theater in Miami.

The couple welcomed their first child, son Shai, in January 2017. “This is, without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to us,” the pair said in a statement at the time.

The professional dancers said “I do” at City Hall in New York City in July 2017. “This was one of the most exciting days of my life,” Chmerkovskiy wrote via Instagram the following year. “Everything felt very festive, I couldn’t take my eyes off my future wife the whole ride to the City Hall and it was is if New York City herself was marrying us.

After quietly tying the knot at City Hall, the pair had a lavish ceremony at New York’s Oheka Castle in July 2017. “It was everything we ever dreamt of,” Chmerkovskiy told Us of their vows. “And the party of the year!” Murgatroyd added.

The pair kicked off their Maks, Val and Peta Live on Tour performances in March 2018, alongside Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val Chmerkovskiy. The tour included 49 cities and special guests.

“I think you learn a lot about each other because you don’t really know what type of parent you’re going to be, and who you’re going to be parenting alongside, really, until you become a parent,” the All Things Fam and Glam blogger told Us in March 2019 about the couple’s relationship after becoming parents. “You become closer. From the delivery room, to bringing them home for the first time, to, like, sharing those special moments.”

“When Peta said it was a boy, I had this elated reaction like, ‘Thank God. ’ But immediately after that, I was like, ‘OK, now I’m ready for a girl.’ I just think it’s a special thing,” Maksim told Us in March 2020 of expanding their family. “[My mom is] dying [for a girl], but I am too.” Murgatroyd previously told Us that she would “love to have more kids.”

“I just saw that she genuinely was in love with this guy, and he’s not always easy to love,” Val told Us in March 2020 of when he knew his brother had found The One with Murgatroyd. “I just knew that if she’s capable of loving him like I do and like my parents, and beyond even more so, and is willing to vouch for this man — there’s a lot of things that go with love. Love is not just, ‘Oh, this is love.’ Love is about loyalty, camaraderie, a certain respect. You saw all of that in the way she looked at him, and it was like, ‘That’s a keeper.’”

Maks recalled his brother telling him to lock it down early on in his relationship. “He’s like, ‘I hope you put a ring on it.’ It wasn’t a surprise,” Maks told Us. “It was a beautiful thing that happened.”

As the world descended into lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Murgatroyd-Chmerkovskiy household hunkered down together for plenty of quality time. As the two-time DWTS champ shared via Instagram at the time, “I’m loving the extra family time that quarantine has brought us .”

In June, she shared another photo collage of her husband and son, writing, “This is all that matters.”

The couple celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary. The Peta Jane Beauty founder shared a slideshow of wedding memories via Instagram, along with the caption: “It’s been over 7 years and I’m still head over heels for you @maksimc   Happy Anniversary my love.”

Her doting groom also shared his anniversary wishes for his spouse on Instagram. Chmerkovskiy shared a snapshot of the card he gave her. On it, he wrote, “1,096 amazing, incredible, dramatic, magical, spontaneous, loving, passionate, extraordinary, wild, fervent, beautiful, amorous days!” The dancer continued, “I am lucky to have you in my life is a gross understatement there isn’t an aspect of my life where I feel complete without you. I love you beyond comprehension and for as long as I live!”

At the beginning of the year, the Fuller House alum appeared as a mystery contestant on Fox’s The Masked Dancer as the Sloth character. While he wasn’t unmasked until the finale, several of his clues along the way mentioned his love for his family. Some of his clues included a family drawing on a chalkboard, a piece of pita bread and that he hoped his performance showed his “Baby Sloth” sees that he’s a “big softy.”

During the seventh week of the season, "Sloth" revealed in a clue package, “I was lonely until I met the love of my life who taught me that love is magic.”

Following the show’s finale, Murgatroyd gushed about her husband’s hard work via Instagram, writing, “I’ll start by saying I’m proud and overwhelmed with joy. Seeing you become the SLOTH was equally hysterical and intriguing, and truly a highlight of 2020 for me. … I hadn’t seen you that happy in months....every day after rehearsal you came home with so much positivity and light radiating from you. … It was a pleasure seeing your excitement my love....this is what your soul needed and my heart is bursting for you. You’re a STAR, a true entertainer and an absolute champion. I wholeheartedly love you with everything in my being. Here’s to more laughs and sweaty Sloth suit adventures in the future... ”

Murgatroyd cheered on her husband’s stint as a judge on Dancing With the Stars Ukraine.

The Masked Dancer alum gushed that his “heart is full” while celebrating the holidays with his wife and son.

Chmerkovskiy surprised the New Zealand native on Valentine’s Day.

“I was in complete shock, we had just been speaking on the phone, with him telling me he was driving back to his hotel in the freezing cold in Ukraine,” Murgatroyd wrote via Instagram at the time. “Lol. Liar!!! Big lies!!! He had flown overnight and told me that he had a long work day and wouldn’t be able to talk for most of it. More Lies!!!! ❤️ This was the BEST SURPRISE EVER!!!”

Amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Chmerkovskiy gave his social media followers a glimpse of his experience in Kyiv while filming World of Dance. The Peta Jane founder, for her part, asked for prayers for his safe homecoming.

“I don’t usually ask these things from my social media network, however, today is extremely hard and the next few days will be even harder,” she wrote via Instagram on February 24. “My pain is overwhelming and I’m struggling, but you sending your positive light and love to him would be the world to me. Truly, I wish for nothing more. Please play that he comes home soon. Please pray that he has a swift, safe exit. I have faith. I have hope and I have prayed so hard.”

The twosome were reunited at LAX after Chmerkovskiy’s “traumatizing” journey home from Ukraine, which included a stop in Poland.

“I never thought our family would be directly affected by this in our lifetime, I never thought what we are seeing on our TV’s was a reality in 2022. I have never hugged him so tight,” Murgatroyd wrote via Instagram alongside a snap of Chmerkovskiy cuddling Shai. “Shaking and forever grateful. Now it’s time to heal. We cannot go back to our normal. Our lives are forever changed. We have a new normal, and that’s OK.”

“I feel OK. However there are so many 'things' going on,” Murgatroyd wrote via Instagram Stories after a fan asked how she felt with her husband’s return to Poland. “At first I was nervous and unsure and didn't want him to leave again. But I know he made the right decision. There wasn't a way that he could stay and watch. I'm just proud. I have my anxious days though!”

"Ojai for a hot minute ✨," Murgatroyd captioned a sultry selfie with her husband as they soaked up quality time following his return from Ukraine.

Murgatroyd revealed she and her husband were just “working” on expanding their family during a June 8 Instagram Q&A. At the time, a social media follower had asked whether a second child was in the couple’s future.

“No seriously, you all will get some info coming at you soon about our family,” she wrote in her social media post.

"You’ve probably been wondering why we haven’t had more children after we keep saying how much we want to . .. well I’ve been trying. I’ve had three miscarriages and it’s been a long hard journey for Maks and I. A traumatic, stressful, super sad journey," Murgatroyd revealed in a lengthy Instagram post. "You might ask why? Why are you telling this personal story…? Well, I didn’t want to for the longest time. I never wanted to tell anyone."

She continued: "I honestly just got sick of hiding it. I found it was harder to conceal this secret than just 'say it how it was' so to speak. It became harder for me to keep a happy face on, day after day. ... The first time I let it out of my mouth to a colleague I felt strangely better, like a piece of shame had chipped away. So I found the more people I told, the better I felt. I came to realize that there is nothing shameful about it."

Murgatroyd shared a heartbreaking glimpse of her IVF process via Instagram, revealing her first transfer was unsuccessful. "I really did think that this was going to work," she captioned the footage. "Looking into Maks eyes as he was crying, seeing our baby together . .. just made this experience so worth it even though it didn't turn out how we had hoped. ... I will get my baby, just not right now."

Lyubina Kuznetsova - biography, personal life, photo, news, ballroom dancing, Andrea Palomba, Instagram 2023

Biography

European vice-champion in ballroom dancing Lyubina Kuznetsova fully shares the opinion of Maya Plisetskaya about the insufficiency of one technique to conquer dance and ballet heights. The People's Artist believed that the main task of a dancer is to make the viewer empathize.

Childhood and youth

The future samba and foxtrot star was born on the first day of autumn 1997 years. Kuznetsova's hometown is Donetsk. Parents gave their daughter a rare name, which is the female form of the male surname Lyubin, in an effort to endow the girl with the ability to please others, to give them care and joy. The athlete has an older sister.

Lyubina's mother, Irina Timofeeva, who now owns an atelier and makes overalls, in particular uniforms for delivery services, devoted a decade and a half to ballroom dancing. When choosing a section for her youngest daughter, the woman wanted to enroll the girl in a folklore or pop dance circle, because she knew that tango and paso doble required complete dedication. But, having met former friends in the recreation center - rivals on the dance floor, who became coaches, my mother allowed Lyubina to follow in her footsteps. nine0005

In an interview, a native of Donetsk repeatedly said that preparing for performances and competitions, in which she was involved from the age of five, did not leave time for stupid things in adolescence, for which she is grateful to her parents and coaches. After graduating from school, Lyubina entered the specialty "choreography" of the Institute of Philology, History and Arts of the Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy of the Crimean Federal University named after V. I. Vernadsky.

Dancing

As a child, Lyubina did not like to learn and refine the elements of dance, but now the girl understands that creativity and improvisation are impossible without mastering the technique. Also, a native of Donetsk liked to dance Latin more than the European standard. nine0005

Kuznetsova believes that the advantage of ballroom dancing over ballet is the lack of requirements for height and weight - it is enough to look aesthetically pleasing. But there are requirements for the age of the start of a sports career. Lyubina is convinced that a dancer who started at 18-20 will never reach international heights.

Kuznetsova herself achieved the greatest success in 2017, during which she became the champion of Russia, Ukraine, the World Cup winner, the champion of Eastern Europe and the vice-champion at the European Championship in ballroom dancing. At this time, Vladimir Litvinov was Lyubina's partner. nine0005

Since 2018, Kuznetsova has been performing at international competitions for Italy, paired with Andrea Palomba, a native of the country of spaghetti, wine and opera. Lyubina calls her partner the kindest guy she has ever met in her life, but she has to take on the organizational side of the performances. The couple's coaches are Evgeny Ryupin and Yana Pokrovskaya.

At the Winter Star 2021 tournament held in Moscow on the last day of January 2021, Lyubina and Andrea took third place; A total of 40 couples participated in the competition. At the Kremlin Cup in July 2021, Kuznetsova and Palomba, this time performing for Russia, became seventh in Latin American dances among amateur contestants. nine0005

Since 2015, Lyubina has been working as a coach for children dancers and believes that a mentor should set an example for his students not only on the dance floor, but also in life. In 2020, a native of Donetsk acted as a referee for the first time: the girl was entrusted with judging the Dance Sport Champions Tour online tournament.

Personal life

Little is known about the sportswoman's personal life. Lyubina is not married. The girl in all interviews spoke about her dislike for flights, but during the 2020 lockdown caused by the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, she came to the conclusion that flying is better than sitting at home without getting out. nine0005

As if in compensation for the period of self-isolation, at the end of 2021, Kuznetsova not only danced herself and taught classes with students, but also attended the performance “Breath of Memory” at the Pushkin Theater as a spectator, and also participated in a number of social events - from the presentation of a charity fund award "A star on the palm" before the meeting of the leaders of the "Up" project of the "United Russia" party. At the parent company, Lyubina, who is 165 cm tall and weighs 54 kg, regularly acts as a model. nine0005

The sportswoman has repeatedly confessed her love for animals, especially dogs and cats, and distinguishes perseverance and emotionality from her qualities. Kuznetsova often sings at home and thinks she could excel in vocals.

Lyubina Kuznetsova now

On January 16, 2022, the Russia-1 TV channel launched the 13th season of the Dancing with the Stars show, in which waltz and rumba professionals pair up with film, theater and vocal luminaries. Lyubina's partner was 16-year-old singer Vanya Dmitrienko, who won the Golden Gramophone award in 2021. According to Komsomolskaya Pravda, published at the end of December 2021, Andrei Malakhov again became the host of the project, and the jury retained its backbone. As in the previous two seasons, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Egor Druzhinin and Daria Zlatopolskaya were entrusted with evaluating the performances of the participants. The fourth judge was Vladimir Varnava. nine0005

On New Year's Eve, the silver medalist of the Kremlin Cup in Latin American dancing posted a rehearsal video with Dmitrienko on her Instagram page. Kuznetsova stated with a smile that for the first time in her biography she dances hip-hop, but the sense of rhythm gained while learning the cha-cha-cha dance helps her to master new movements.

Interesting facts

  • The sportswoman's surname is the third most common in Russia after Smirnov and Ivanov.
  • Although Lyubina's Instagram account has a photo session with a cigarette by Moscow photographer Anna Ilyina, Kuznetsova has never tried tobacco in her life. nine0046
  • The namesake of the dancer is Lyubina Gaiduk-Velkovich, German writer, author of works in the Upper Lusatian language.
  • Alexander Viktorovich Achkasov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Driving Schools of Russia, deputy of the Council of the Lyublino District - the godfather of Lyubina Kuznetsova.
  • In December 2021, the Donetsk community of Moscow named Lyubina's mother "Person of the Year" in the "Woman Entrepreneur" category.
