Dancing With the Stars season 31 has come to a close and one couple has won the coveted mirrorball trophy. This season the competition show was streaming live coast to coast on Disney+ for the very first time, and is the first show to stream live on the platform.

A new group of dancing darlings took the ballroom by storm, including actress Selma Blair, drag queen superstar Shangela, and comedian Wayne Brady. Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough all returned as judges, along with host Tyra Banks and new co-host Alfonso Ribeiro, who was the DWTS season 19 champion.

See below for who was eliminated each week, and which star won the season.

Jason Lewis and Peta Murgatroyd

Sex and the City star Jason Lewis was the first celeb eliminated in the season 31 premiere after his cha cha failed to impress the judges. You know Samantha Jones' PR firm would've found a way to spin this, but simply put, it's sad to see Smith Jerrod — I mean, Jason Lewis go.

Although not technically eliminated, actress Selma Blair had to withdraw from the competition due to complications from her multiple sclerosis. On her last performance she said, "This is a dance for everyone who had tried and hoped they could do more, but also the power in realizing when it's time to walk away."

Joseph Baena and Daniella Karagach

Fitness model Joseph Baena heard praises from the judges week after week, even winning the title of "best rumba by a male" from judge Carrie Ann Inaba. But in a shocking twist only a day later, Baena was eliminated.

Heidi D'Amelio and Artem Chigvintsev

Heidi D'Amelio, The D'Amelio Show star and mom to TikTok influencers Charli and Dixie, was saved by the judges both times she landed in the bottom two. But their votes couldn't save her in week 8 when she was sent home automatically for having the lowest score and audience vote of the night.

Vinny Guadagnino and Koko Iwasaki

Jersey Shore star Vinny Guadagnino fist-pumped his way into America's hearts. Despite getting the lowest scores on the leaderboard almost every week he made it to week 8, getting eliminated just one week shy of the semifinals.

Trevor Donovan and Emma Slater

90210 star Trevor Donovan came into the competition declaring he'd never really tried to dance before, but ended up hoofing his way to the semifinals with pro dance partner Emma Slater. Unfortunately, Slater's multi-season pattern of being eliminated after dancing a cha-cha continued as the pair earned the lowest scores of the night and were sent home without a shot at a save from the judges.

Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart

Coda star Daniel Durant had a stunning run on the show. The previous week, he took viewers' breath away doing a jazz routine in which the music cut out midway to model his experience as deaf performer. He and partner Britt Stewart gave their all in the semifinals, but when it came down to the judges' vote between Durant and charismatic drag queen Shangela, the actor fell just short of moving on to the final round.

    About the show

The premiere of the project, the Russian version of the British TV show Strictly Come Dancing , was first held in 2006. Having successfully existed for ten years, the show went on an indefinite break, and in 2020 it returned to the screens again.

As in previous seasons of the program, the couples competing for the top prize are a professional dancer and a celebrity. The dance duets are evaluated by the jury members, as well as by the viewers. Funds received during voting are transferred to charitable needs. A special expert is also involved in the assessment. For example, in the tenth season it was Philip Kirkorov.

Throughout the history of the show, such celebrities as Elena Yakovleva, Anna Kovalchuk, Natasha Koroleva, Yulia Menshova, Laysan Utyasheva, Ksenia Sobchak and others took part in the filming.

The jury, which will evaluate the performances of couples in the twelfth season, includes People's Artist of Russia, ex-soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Nikolai Tsiskaridze, TV presenter Daria Zlatopolskaya, choreographer Yegor Druzhinin and a new person, famous dancer and director Garik Rudnik. It was he who staged the choreographic program of Eurovision 2009 in Moscow, the closing ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, as well as numbers for Philip Kirkorov, Laima Vaikule, Dima Bilan, Emin Agalarov and other stars.

The main choreographer of the show is the charismatic, bright and talented founder of the KozarDance Theatre, Vasily Kozar, known for his extravagance. Vasily has worked on the creation of multimedia performances for world famous brands, collaborated with many celebrities, and was also a choreographer on the Dancing on TNT project. So in the twelfth season, the artists will have to master not only classical styles, but also new and unexpected directions.

On the eve of the premiere of the 12th season of "Dancing with the Stars", the creators of the project and the TV channel "Russia 1" announced the start of the all-Russian flash mob #RussiaDancingAtHome. All fans of the unique dance show were invited to carefully watch all episodes, memorize the movements of the dancers and try to repeat them. It was proposed to record the dances on video, posting it on social networks with the hashtag #Russiadancing at home. The best videos will be selected for broadcast.

    The finale of the show

The viewers of the Russia-1 channel saw the final episode of the project on February 21, 2021. Five pairs participated in it: Katerina Spitz and Mikhail Shchepkin , Dava and Daria Palei , Anton Shagin and Ulyana Maximkin , Sergey Lazarev and Ekaterina Osipova , as well as Ekaterina Guseva and Evgeny Papunaishvili .

The organizers of the show divided the final into two stages, in each of which the contestants showed one number. In the second dance, each couple had to combine several styles.

According to the results of the first round, the pairs of Lazareva with Osipova and Dava with Paley scored the most points: 40 points each. At the same time, Daria Zlatopolskaya, a member of the jury, especially noted the ex-lover of Olga Buzova.

Daria Zlatopolskaya about Dava's dance: “You do very good movements. But the main thing that you convey is something that cannot be learned: it is either there or it is not. You convey the mood."

In third place were Guseva and Papunaishvili (39 points). On the fourth - Katerina Shpitsa and Mikhail Shchepkin: 38 points. And the last were Anton Shagin and Ulyana Maksimkina, who scored 37 points.

In the second round, the alignment of forces changed: Shagin and Maksimkina took the lead, to whom the judges gave 40 points. One point behind them were Guseva and Papunaishvili, Lazarev and Osipova, Spitz and Shchepkin. And Dava and Paley this time received only 37 points.

After the audience voting took place, the victory went to the singer Sergey Lazarev and his parquet partner Ekaterina Osipova. Second place was won by Dava and Paley, who lost one point to the leaders. Third place went to Guseva and Papunaishvili.

On the eve of the final, Dava's ex-girlfriend Olga Buzova asked her fans to vote for the rapper. And this, according to many, played a big role in the fact that he broke into second position.
