The video game involves competitive dance routines that you can play by yourself or with other people. This can help you burn calories while dancing to a variety of popular songs.

After all, dancing is a form of cardio exercise. It’s also an excellent workout option, especially if you dislike the gym or want an exercise routine that offers variety and an element of fun and competitiveness.

Each dance routine is a workout, even though it might not feel like it.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what the “Just Dance” video game is all about, how to use it for weight loss, and the other health benefits it may provide.

“Just Dance” is a video game created by Ubisoft. It’s a dance-based game that challenges players to mimic dancers on the screen.

The game has a library of songs to choose from. Each song has its own unique dance routine. The songs are categorized by difficulty, depending on the movements and physical effort.

“Just Dance” has released a new version of the video game almost every year since 2009. In general, each edition features 40 songs by popular artists.

There are also special editions, such as:

  • “Just Dance Kids”
  • “Just Dance Disney”
  • “Just Dance: Summer Party”

To play “Just Dance,” you’ll need a gaming system like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox.

Depending on your system, you’ll also need a motion sensor or camera. This allows the game to track and rate your moves.

If you buy “Just Dance,” you can also sign up for “Just Dance Unlimited,” an online subscription service that offers access to additional songs. It also lets you use a smartphone to track moves.

You can purchase “Just Dance” at:

  • video game stores
  • electronic stores
  • the electronic section of general merchandise stores (like Target or Walmart)
  • online retailers

When buying “Just Dance,” make sure it’s compatible with your gaming system.

According to anecdotal evidence, regularly playing “Just Dance” may help you lose weight, especially if you’re making dietary changes too.

Dancing promotes weight loss by burning calories through physical activity. And, rocking, bopping, and boogying to your favorite tunes with “Just Dance” can help you burn those calories.

The number of calories you burn will depend on your weight, activity intensity, and the duration of your dance session. According to Harvard Health Publishing, in general, 30 minutes of fast dancing, like the type you do with “Just Dance,” may burn:

  • 180 calories for a 125-pound person
  • 223 calories for a 155-pound person
  • 266 calories for a 185-pound person

However, healthy weight loss also requires dietary changes. To lose weight, you need to consume fewer calories than you burn. This creates a calorie deficit, which helps you lose weight.

You can create a calorie deficit by cutting back on the calories you take in while increasing the calories you burn by doing more physical activity regularly.

To reap health benefits, the United States Department of Health and Human Services recommends that people age 18 and older get the following amount of exercise each week:

  • a total of 150 minutes or more of moderate-intensity physical activity each week OR
  • a total of 75 minutes or more of vigorous-intensity physical activity each week OR
  • an equivalent combination of both

However, if you’re looking to lose weight, you may need to exercise for more than the recommended weekly amount. You can do this by playing “Just Dance” for:

  • longer than 30 minutes at a time, 5 or more times a week
  • a total of 2 or 3 times a day, for at least 20 minutes each time, 5 or more days a week

You can also burn more calories by playing “Just Dance” at a more vigorous pace.

The length of time it takes to see results depends on several factors. Remember, you must consume fewer calories and burn more calories to create a calorie deficit.

As a general rule of thumb, a calorie deficit of around 500 calories a day is helpful for weight loss.

This equals 3,500 fewer calories a week, which may help you lose around 1 pound (0.45 kilograms) of body weight per week. This is considered healthy and sustainable weight loss.

  • Drink water before, during, and after each session to stay hydrated.
  • Do warmup stretches before dancing. This will prepare your muscles for activity.
  • Do cooldown stretches after dancing.
  • Start with easy, simple moves if you’re a beginner.
  • When trying a new routine, sit and watch it first.
  • Take a break if you feel tired or light-headed.
  • Avoid intense dance routines if you experience balance or mobility concerns. Start slow.
  • If you haven’t worked out in a long time or have an injury, talk with your doctor first. They can provide specific safety tips for your experience.

Just Dance 2019 - “I lost weight with the video game Just dance 2019”

All my life I have avoided sports and any diet, as this is absolutely not my thing.
Weight has always been stable at my height is 159 - 53 kg.
Constantly ate sweets, buns, chips and did not think at all about this very weight, since it never rose above 55 kg.
SUDDENLY (!!!) life circumstances led me to some kind of apathy and overeating of my usual norm. I started to just EAT to somehow please myself.
I understood my problem when all the jeans became too small + shortness of breath appeared on the stairs. I got on the scales and decided that it was time to take on myself ♥
I say right away that everything depends on your will! After all, no one will force you to order a pizza, right? So you don't need to harm yourself)
Are you ready? The report has gone!)
The starting weight for August 2018 was 65 kg (I never want to see this figure again), I didn’t measure the girths, but I think everything will be visible in the photo.

So what if sport is not for me?
To begin with, I advise everyone to install the program on the phone "YAZIO",
, which will help you with counting kcal and other useful functions.

I thought about what I like to do? The answer came by itself - to play games. So why not turn one of your hobbies into something useful for yourself?
Great, installing game 9 on my Nintendo Switch0028 "Just dance 2019" (it is not necessary to choose this year).
If you don't have any platform for this game, then here are 2 options:
1) play with your phone after downloading this game;
2) open YouTube and find dance playlists. For example, [link]
This game counts your movements + with its help, you can also count the calories spent by activating the Sweat mode in the game .
Involve your friends and family, as it is much more fun to dance + compete together with two or three people))
I danced in the evening as soon as I came home. Put on a comfortable uniform, take a bottle of water and go! At first, of course, it was difficult. After 3 dances in a row, shortness of breath already began, so I had to rest between them. I drank some water during breaks.
I danced in different ways: either 1 hour, then an hour and a half, then as many as two) From about 8-10 dances you will burn something))
most songs. Otherwise, if you do them incorrectly, then you won’t pump up your muscles, and the game will count your movements as a miss.
So, having learned all the movements and getting used to the pace of the game, we move on to REALLY benefit from dancing:
1) warm-up. I chose a light but energetic song (2-3 is possible), preferably my favorite)
2) several songs for different muscle groups (you jump more somewhere, wave your arms somewhere)
3) we choose more complex compositions, after which you can take small breaks to sit and drink some water.

After training : shower, rest.
An hour later - a light dinner, or yogurt (you can eat an hour before training so that you don’t eat at night).
Thus, I replaced the usual evening eating with dancing. She also removed all sugar, junk food and starchy foods. Thank you YAZIO for this)) + willpower, of course)
I started to have only healthy snacks (goodbye, cookies!): fruits, water, vegetables, cottage cheese, eggs.
Yes, there were breakdowns! But I pulled myself together and went to dance. Believe me, after a week of everyday dancing, it will become a habit)
I continued these actions until the New Year 2019. My weight surprised and delighted me - 50-51 kg ♥
I had to buy new clothes, because the old one just hung on me!
Bottom line: got a haircut, started wearing dresses and skirts + started to feel better!
I didn't find any cons from this type of load) Only sometimes the mood was not for dancing at all, but then one day can be missed! + without a subscription there will be not enough songs ((

Now I have a different weight and other problems)) I will lose it, but in a different way.

Gamespot has put together a list of games that can help you keep fit while you're stuck at home in self-isolation.

For example, "Fitness Boxing" is a rhythm game where you play drums to the beat of contemporary pop songs. It's a full body workout that targets your abs, legs and shoulders, and works your heart as well. Although the song list leaves a lot to be desired, "Fitness Boxing" gets the job done. The boxing sessions of this game are intense enough to keep you fit.

The Just Dance series has been around since 2009 and continues to be a fun way to burn calories and sweat. A journalist playing in self-isolation found that playing in just 30 minutes burns up to 200 calories.

A motion-based dance game that focuses on the choreography of hit songs. While you can play Just Dance alone, multiple players can also participate in the game. Using motion controllers (such as Switch's Joy-Cons) or their own smartphone with the "Just Dance Controller" app, players mirror the dancers' movements on the screen and score points.

Just Dance isn't the only dance workout. Zumba: Burn It Up released November 2019year, invites Switch players to dance in the style of Latin music. Zumba includes fun music and choreographed dancing, but you don't have to be a great dancer or have the perfect beat to have a good time.

Arms is one of the few early Switch games to actually use motion controls. This is a stylish fighting game with a lot of unique characters.

The Sprint Vector offers a pretty intense virtual reality workout. In addition to the standard tracks, there are obstacle courses that add even more challenges.
