CHAPTER 1

- StASUSIA for us, girl. One of the women clapped her hands, looking at me benevolently.

Putting a smile on my face, I stood in the middle of this impromptu circle of ladies, starting to lightly sway my hips to the music, each time setting a new rhythm and connecting my hands to the dance. I knew how to dance, and once I even loved, studying for a long time with teachers and honing my skills.

- Well done! - Aunt Wilma and part-time my future mother-in-law praised me.

Putting a smile back on my face, I bowed respectfully to her, trying to be more casual. Everyone knew that things were going poorly for our family, and I think the Sherwood family is no exception, so I expected everything at these bridesmaids, up to the most stupid nit-picking. And the longer everything was fine, the more nervous I became.

- Well, it's time to look at the girl, if there is anything ...

- Come on, daughter. Go to the next room and undress. - Mom nodded to me, and I hurried to hide in a small room, taking off all my things.

Having reached my underwear, I exhaled, pulling myself together, I wanted to turn everything in my path, crumble everything into small pieces, throw out all the negativity that had gathered inside. Everything was always good with us, and one single evening changed everything, derailed.

The memories made my hands tremble, although our situation could not be called something unique. The father, the only breadwinner of the family, just went to a tavern to drink, have fun and forget, and in the end did not return home. I got into trouble, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, and there were enough of those who fell under the arm that evening, the long-standing enmity of the two kingdoms has not left anyone indifferent until now.

— Daughter, are you ready? Mom slipped into a small room, looking at me with a squint. “Melissa, how long can you dig in here?” She breathed out through gritted teeth, apparently restraining herself from yelling. “You understand we are in no position to make our own rules.

- I'll be ready in two minutes.

Mom came out, looking sideways at me again, and I covered my face with my hands. Before the death of my father, we had an excellent relationship, we could calmly talk on various topics, discuss new fashion, music, some news in our small town. Now, my mother, who was not used to working at all, did not know where to run and from whom to ask for help in order to sort out her father’s affairs and not slide to the very bottom.

Exhaling, I finally pulled off my underwear, the most expensive of all my sets, something that should have remained untouched before the wedding. True, until recently I didn’t want this marriage myself, but now I got naked so that the relatives of my dear fiancé would examine me to their heart’s content, deciding whether I was healthy and whether there were any injuries on my body.

Before I had time to think carefully about what to do, my mother ran up to me, quickly pulling me along, not even thinking of throwing something on me to cover me during such transitions.

— Stand here, daughter. We have nothing to be ashamed of. - Mom chuckled rather, taking me out into the public view.

Closing my eyes, I tried not to blush, holding my head high. The stupid tradition of our ancestors, to look at a bride without clothes, like a mare before buying, looking for some flaws, was crossed out from the list of traditions of our world half a century ago, as a degrading bride, now it has suddenly become relevant again. It was with me…

Probably, I could cope with such a disgrace, but I did not know how to survive the looks of these women. They did not look, they literally burned through every millimeter of my skin, sometimes, as if casually touching, pouting.

- Good girl. Aunt Wilma nodded, making me exhale noisily.

- Yes, you're right, but you still need to call the midwife, isn't she spoiled? A creaky voice was heard from somewhere on the side.

Biting my lip, I tried to hold back all the unflattering words that I had ever heard, so as not to finally tell everything that I thought about their behavior. By an effort of will, suppressing a wave of anger in myself, I tried to think about the words of my mother, who tearfully asked me to be patient, to survive these moments so that our house would not be taken away from us and my youngest sister would not experience the same.

If something else comes up after the midwife, I'll definitely tell you everything!

- Call the midwife. - Not at all afraid, my mother exclaimed, despite the free views of others, my father followed my movements, afraid to cast a shadow on our family, and I myself did not see anything good in these clamping. “We have nothing to fear. - As if to confirm my words, my mother sang. - Our girl is smart, beautiful. My late husband and I spared no expense in the education of our daughters, so Melissa knows writing, counting, can dance, sing, play English, and does needlework. We also took a responsible attitude to the communication of our daughter with men, therefore, apart from teachers, Melissa did not communicate with anyone.

I almost grimaced at the described picture, I got the impression that I had been brought up as a master's daughter who knew nothing, but in reality it was not at all like that. In addition to everything listed by my mother, which I really knew and could do, at the insistence of my father, my sister and I cooked, cleaned our rooms ourselves, knew how to ride a horse and much more. But why does my mother tell all this, doesn’t she understand that they won’t marry me?

I told her, let me look into my father's books, I'll understand everything, my father taught me. But no, the image does not allow us, we are used to living in a big way and how long have we lived, three months? Now what? And now my mother herself insisted on marriage, although there is still a week before my majority. She herself gives me into the hands of vile William, as if I were some kind of commodity. And I won’t dare to object, after all that my parents have done for me. A little more and oh how I dare, mother.

— Oh, what does she have? Some kind of sign? It was also hidden under the hair! Someone behind me exclaimed, and I finally opened my eyes, grinning at the corner of my lips.

— Aunt Wilma, would you tell me right away whether you need a poor daughter-in-law or not? Why all this? So much I wanted to look at a young naked girl, is your own reflection in the mirror not happy?

— What? The once good-natured aunt exploded, her vast body shaking with anger.

- Melissa! - My mother shouted nearby, and then painfully pulled my hand. - Apologize quickly!

- I don't think so. I spat. - At first, this tradition was already forgotten by everyone, after the midwife. Yes, in our town almost every bride is spoiled, and they take it somehow.

- Yes, she is spoiled! another aunt exclaimed knowingly.

- For you personally, I will wait for the midwife, and you will hear what you already know. Everyone in our town knows what kind of father we had and there is no need to pretend. Can't you immediately say that all agreements are empty words for you?

“Daughter…” mother hissed at the snake.

— What, daughter? Yes, I’m glad that I’m not going to marry their vile William, as soon as I imagine this carcass next to me, everything inside twists from the abomination!

The cheek was burned by a blow. And, probably, I would have accepted this slap in the face if Aunt Wilma had given it to me, after all, I insulted her son, whatever he was, but I did not expect at all that my own mother would give it to me ...

Chapter 2

The cart swayed steadily, causing only feelings of impotence. It has been a week since the memorable day of my viewing, or a hell of a week to be more precise. Of course, I waited for the midwife, checked myself and left with a proudly raised head, giving before that a few frowns to my mother, who tried to minimize the conflict and still marry me to vile William.

Mom came home after me, making a huge scandal, calling me a careless fool who does not see her happiness to live in abundance and not litter her head with various nonsense. By nonsense, of course, she meant money matters, and my father's account book, which I nevertheless got into, clutching my head from the calculations I had made.

In the name of love - Reviews - Poster of KaliningradOctober at the Zarya cinema with a resounding success was the film by Wim Wenders "Pina: Dance of Passion in 3D". In just a few days, the audience managed to create such a stir around the film that the organizing committee of the festival had to meet them halfway - for everyone who could not fit in the cinema hall on Friday, they arranged an unscheduled screening the next day. And this was a small victory for all those who missed real art.

The painting by Wim Wenders is far from the first cinematic dedication to the great German dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch. At 19In 83, the Belgian film director Chantal Ackerman shot the documentary “Once Pina Asked Me,” and after almost 20 years of Bausch’s merit, director Lee Yanor noted with the short film “Coffee with Pina”. It took her 15 minutes to express all her love and respect to the legendary dancer. In addition to documentaries, Pina Bausch can also be seen in feature films - with Fellini and Almodovar. Film classics and documentary filmmakers were more fortunate than Wim Wenders - they had the opportunity not only to work with Pina Bausch, but also to demonstrate their creations to her. The main critic for Wenders was the troupe of the dance theater "Wuppertal", orphaned after the departure of their master. In July 2009th, immediately after the death of Pina Bausch, many decided that this super-modern project would not happen. But after 2 years, when the picture was presented at the 61st Berlin Film Festival, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

After Bausch's death, the director, who had conceived Pina while the choreographer was still alive, wanted to abandon the project, but the dancers themselves insisted on continuing the work. As a result, the tape became the troupe's farewell to the master. For 106 minutes, the artists share their memories of the years of work with Pina Bausch, confess their love to her and for the first time talk about what they were afraid to tell their mentor during her lifetime. Where there are not enough words, significant dances and heartfelt music come to the rescue. Some generally prefer to remain silent, throwing out all their pain and gratitude in expressive movements.

The film reflects four of the brightest and most famous performances by Pina Bausch - Café Müller, Full Moon, Kontakthof and The Rite of Spring. Individual dance numbers Wim Wenders transfers from the stage to the fresh air. As a result, cities with their industrial zones and highways, as well as forests, mountains and reservoirs, become scenery, to which Bausch herself attached so much importance. Frozen pictures suddenly take on movement. Everything dances - from trees to railway stations. Dancing to incredibly strong, exciting music, which is an integral part of each performance, its addition. Where the idea of the production laid down by Bausch is not fully understood, it is the musical work that makes it possible to understand everything.

The latest technologies, previously used by filmmakers for entertainment purposes, help the director to convey his whole idea to the end, to penetrate the very essence of the dance action. Sometimes it seems that you are dancing a part on the sand or walking in a column of artists behind weightless swaying curtains. It's rain pouring down on you from the ceiling. A little more and you will take a step onto the stage of the Wuppertal Opera House, so that, waiting for the first chord, you will tell your story of unrequited love and loneliness. From an overabundance of feelings, sometimes it takes your breath away. The body, so soft and limp, at the moment is pulled by a string, responding to dance passes to the music, leading to a state of catharsis. The only desire is to throw off unnecessary clothes and remove chairs: what a mockery - to show the dances born by Pina in a limited space!

Her main testament is to dance for love, to dance non-stop.
