- Parrots are known to hang out around all kinds of mobs.
- If a parrot is near a jukebox playing music it’ll begin to dance.

To tame them, you’ll need any kind of seed. You can feed them Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Melon Seeds, and Beetroot Seeds. You’ll know the parrot is tamed once you see hearts appear above its head.
Now that you've learned how to Tame a Parrot, why not check out our Breeding Guide that details everything you need to know about Breeding Parrots and other Mobs in Minecraft.
Do Not Feed Them Cookies
Be careful not to feed parrots cookies, because if you do, they’ll fly around then die; as seen in the pictures below.
Once a parrot is fed a cookie, it'll have a green effect around it. Then it'll begin to fly around aimlessly in the air before dying.

How to Breed a Parrots
To breed a parrot, you’ll need to tame them first. After you have the parrots tamed, you’ll need to feed them any kind of seed. Once you’ve done that, you won’t need to build any animal farm to keep the parrots from flying away, as they consistently follow you unless commanded otherwise.
Now that you have the seeds, make sure to feed the parrots. Once the parrots are fed, they’ll enter love mode and a baby parrot will spawn within seconds.
Now that you've learned how to breed parrots, why not check out our Taming Guide that details everything you need to know about Taming Animals in Minecraft.

How to tame a parrot in Minecraft

The number of animals available in Minecraft that players can tame, breed, ride or keep as pets continues to grow with each new update. Players can tame horses, cows, sheep, dogs, cats and even polar bears in Minecraft. But the most colorful creature that players can keep as passive friends is the parrot.
Parrots are brightly colored birds that come in a wide variety of colors. From blues, greens, reds, purples and gemstone yellows to browns, grays and more of the rainbow. These parrots are based almost exclusively on macaws of many varieties, with the exception of gray parrots, which are modeled on real cockatiels. They are found exclusively in the jungle biome in Minecraft, usually hanging from trees.
Parrots in Minecraft can be used as an early detection system, as well as a decoration; they can ride on the player's shoulders and mimic the sounds of mobs up to 20 cubic blocks away. The version of the parrot sounds will be slightly higher, but it will give players a warning if they are near a hostile mob.
And as a bonus, the parrots will dance every time they are near an active jukebox. At least parrot dance parties are something players can do if they get bored in Minecraft.
Parrot Taming
Here's everything players need to know about Minecraft parrots and how to tame them. Players need to first search the jungle biomes for the color of the parrot they want to tame. As soon as a possible new friend is found, the parrot will have to be fed. Parrots love seeds of all varieties; players can use melon seeds, wheat seeds, pumpkin seeds, or beet seeds.
Every time a player feeds seeds to a parrot, there is a 33.33% chance to tame it. Players can continue to feed their new parrots seeds, but parrots do not have a baby form and unfortunately cannot be bred. The closest thing a parrot has to a baby shape is a parrot egg, which is how they appear in creative mode.
Like wolves and cats, tamed parrots will follow the players. They can be asked to sit down to stay put, or players can ask their bird buddies to travel on their shoulders. Players may have one parrot on each shoulder, always starting on the left shoulder. Parrots on shoulders appear in inventory slots.
To get the parrot to attach to the avatar's shoulder, players simply need to walk through the bird. Parrots dismount from the shoulder if the player takes damage, steps in any amount of water, or falls. Unfortunately, players cannot feed the parrot with a water breathing potion and take it with them on a deep sea swim.
Important to know
There are several warnings in Minecraft about not giving chocolate or avocados to your parrot. If players feed their new feathered friend cookies, the parrot will become fatally poisoned and die. In addition, players entering dangerous areas such as lava can also kill the tamed parrots that were on their shoulders. There are much nicer ways to get rid of unwanted tamed animals in Minecraft, so please don't kill the birds.
