Arctic Riddim has released a new album "Man of the World". Which somehow surprisingly did not leave even me indifferent, although I have never been a connoisseur of reggae. I always missed this relaxing music, although I was impressed by its invariably life-affirming mood.
And then suddenly "Arctic Riddim" breaks this personal stereotype of mine. Their reggae is a balanced cocktail of melodic relaxation and dance rhythm. Plus, they managed to avoid monotony: each song has its own tenacious motive, and they do not merge into the same type of meditation.
Therefore, the album "Man of the World" was not boring for me personally to listen to.
Perhaps the secret is in the rich polyphony that I finally tasted. Every second of each composition is filled with many sounds - live and electronic. It sounds both beautiful and modern, and interesting, and atmospheric: these are Jamaican rhythms, then Asian flavor.
It is impossible to ignore the pleasant, sonorous female vocals. He sounds here very organic and convincing: when you are invited to dance with such a voice, forgetting about everything, I really want to accept the invitation.
Another plus to all of the above is the originality of the texts. The musicians remain true to their dance philosophy, which offers dance in any understandable and incomprehensible situation. But the plots differ: here and about travel, and about sports, and about the environment - a rather unexpected choice of topics. From truly oriental philosophy, musicians effortlessly move on to fairy tales, from them - to landscape sketches .
.. And you can never guess what will happen farther.
But in general, the leitmotif is the same: "Everything will be fine." Therefore, such songs are the best medicine for heightened feelings: a smooth motive is wrapped up like a warm blanket, a full-bodied and pleasant melody is tasty like tart fragrant tea - and all this becomes a barrier against worries and anxieties.
Therefore, the word "World", written in the title with a capital letter, seems to me emphatically ambiguous. It seems to hint that the lyrical hero (and with him, therefore, all the adherents of positive reggae philosophy) is not only a cheerful traveler and cosmopolitan, for whom the entire globe is home. This is also a person who preaches peacefulness as opposed to aggression, positive as opposed to negativity.
P.S. There is another mischievous polysemantic word in the album - "Infection". According to the plot of the song, this is a very peculiar compliment: a kind of ingenuous lamentation that the charms of the main character cannot be resisted.
