Reality TV history was made when Amber Riley was awarded the Golden Mask Trophy on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday night. The actress became the first celebrity to win both the singing competition and “Dancing With the Stars.” She took home the Mirrorball Trophy with her partner Derek Hough on Season 17 in 2013.
Riley was revealed to be Harp, who was the first performer of the season and the last one standing. Her song selections throughout the weeks included “Perfect” by Pink, “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston, “Thank You For Being a Friend” from “The Golden Girls,” “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga and “Gravity” by John Mayer. She defeated the Lambs in the finale, who were revealed to be singing trio Wilson Phillips.

“This has been such an amazing experience,” Riley told “The Masked Singer” host Nick Cannon following her victory. “Just to be able to come out here and be completely covered and let my talent speak for itself. And the love that I have for people, and wanting people to heal, and feel what it is that I’m singing. So I hope everybody felt my soul, because I bared it right here on this stage.”
Wayne Brady was simultaneously gunning for the same prestige this year. After winning “The Masked Singer” as Fox in Season 2, he made it all the way to the “Dancing With the Stars” finale this year with his partner Witney Carson. The duo came up short, placing third behind winner Charli D’Amilio (with Mark Ballas) and runner-up Gabby Windey (with Val Chmerkovskiy).
Although nobody had won both shows before Riley, like Brady, a select few had claimed victory in one competition, but failed to close the deal in the other. Rumer Willis took home the Season 20 Mirrorball Trophy with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy, but went home after her semifinals performance as Lion on the inaugural season of “The Masked Singer.” Donny Osmond reigned supreme on Season 9 of “DWTS” with his partner Kym Johnson, but came just shy of winning Season 1 of “The Masked Singer” as Peacock. He finished in second place to Monster (T-Pain).

Nick Lachey took home the Golden Mask as Piglet on Season 5 of “The Masked Singer,” but had two left feet on “DWTS,” going home in ninth place on Season 25. There are no other winners of one show that competed on the other, but a couple of interesting relationships exist.
Teyana Taylor, who won Season 7 of “The Masked Singer” as Firefly, is married to “DWTS” Season 30 champ Iman Shumpert. Scherzinger won Season 10 of “DWTS” and has served as a panelist on “The Masked Singer” for all eight of its season.

Amber Riley Fans Celebrate Her Being First To Win Masked Singer & DWTS

Amber Riley's fans celebrate the star for being the first to appear on The Masked Singer and Dancing With The Stars and win both competitions.
Amber Riley's fans are so happy for her after winning The Masked Singer because it made her the first star to win the singing show and Dancing With The Stars. During the show's finale, Harp won the masked trophy over Lambs and was later revealed as Amber. The Glee actress competed on DWTS during season 17 and was partnered with six-time winner Derek Hough. Many celebrities have done both shows, including Donny Osmond, Wayne Brady, and JoJo Siwa. Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino, who competed on DWTS season 31, skipped The Masked Singer and went for The Masked Dancer instead.
While several competed on The Masked Singer and DWTS, only Amber took home both trophies. Twitter user @BamSaum shared photos of Amber winning both shows and wrote, "Amber Riley being the first to win both Dancing With The Stars and The Masked Singer is so iconic and feels so right." The tweet received over two thousand retweets and over fifteen thousand likes.
One fan responded that the Glee actress also won Celebrity Family Feud and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. Another fan said Amber's two wins were "another IN YOUR FACE moment to Simon," referencing when Simon Cowell didn't think she was talented enough for American Idol.

Fans predicted since Amber's first appearance as Harp during The Masked Singer season 8 premiere that she'd take home the masked trophy. Panelists and fans were blown away by her vocals all season long and couldn't imagine anyone better coming along and stealing her spotlight. Amber also seemed like an obvious winner of DWTS since she and Derek earned consistently high scores, and the pro dancer is known for making professionals out of his partners and taking home the mirrorball trophy. Glee fans are stoked that Amber was the one to finally win both competitions.
After the rejections The Masked Singer contestant faced early on, it must feel amazing to accomplish something no one else has.
While fans loved Amber on Glee, sometimes she was unfortunately overshadowed by her costars, like Lea Michele. Since then, The Masked Singer winner learned to step into the spotlight and get the attention and praise she deserves. She is a natural talent and deserved to take home the trophy for both The Masked Singer and DWTS.
If Amber didn't prove Simon wrong when she succeeded on Glee, she surely did now. Winning a singing competition after being rejected by another one is a huge accomplishment. Simon must be kicking himself for overlooking Amber's incredible talent. However, all of her failures made her the strong woman she is today, who has accomplished all of her dreams. Hopefully, she will inspire others to try out both shows and to believe that winning The Masked Singer and DWTS is a possibility.
