HOW MUCH ALCOHOL DO I NEED?

One of the first questions every client asks is, how much alcohol should I purchase for the party?

The first step in figuring out how much alcohol to purchase is estimating how many people will be coming to your event.

Once you determine how many guests, ask yourself a couple questions:

  1. What type of drinks would my guests prefer? (beer, wine, liquor)
  2. Should we provide a limited menu of specialty drinks or an open bar?

A limited menu of four to seven specialty drinks can be offered to guests.

This can help keep the cost of your party down as you will only need to purchase the alcohol, mixers and garnishes in those specific drinks.

Here’s an example of a five drink menu put together with a client for a pool party. The five drinks offered were Sex on the Beach, Coco Loco, Yellow Bird, The Hurricane and Frozen Daquiari’s.

Next, take the number of guests expected to attend and multiply by the estimated number of drinks consumed per person. Example, 40 people at your party and three drinks per person equals 120 total drinks. At a dinner party or cocktail party you can expect guests to consume around two to three drinks per person. At an evening party each guest may consume three to four drinks per person. The number of drinks consumed really depends on the time of day of the event, the type of function and how “wild” your friends are.

Next, take an inventory of what alcohol you currently have. For the alcohol that you need, here’s a guide to estimate.

LIQUOR:

A 750ML bottle of liquor will yield 16 1. 5 oz. Servings. One liter bottle will get you 22 – 1.5 oz servings.

CHAMPAGNE or WINE:

A 750ML bottle of wine or champagne will yield 5 – 5oz. Servings. One liter bottle of wine will get you 6 – 5oz servings.

BEER:

One keg will typically yield 200 beers.

Narcologist's advice on how not to get drunk on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is not complete without a glass of champagne, and then….. and then, according to an old Russian habit, the first glass of champagne is followed by a second, third, fourth, sometimes not a glass, more often … and not champagne.

We all know that excessive alcohol consumption is detrimental to our health and can ruin even the brightest and most beloved holiday. My advice and recommendations on how not to get drunk on the New Year will help to avoid trouble.

It is absolutely impossible to drink and not get drunk - everyone knows about it. My tips will help you avoid a hangover syndrome, observe the rules of decency during the holiday and not fall face down in the salad. The first and basic rule of any feast is to clearly control the amount of alcohol you drink. Remember: the less alcohol you drink during the New Year's holiday, the easier and more pleasant it will be to wake up on January 1st.

There are several common mistakes people make when drinking alcohol. So, many people drink on an empty stomach or consume hard liquor with beer or carbonated drinks to get sharp intoxication. This leads to a deterioration in the state of the body, and in the future to alcohol dependence.

A company gathers, they smoke, drink, eat in a cramped closed room without movement. In an immobilized state, alcohol is processed poorly, so it is advisable to move, for example, dance and breathe fresh air during a feast.

Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach is not recommended. Regardless of the strength of the drink, intoxication on an empty stomach occurs much faster and is more difficult to bear. Before the start of the festive feast, do not be too lazy to take 10-15 tablets of activated charcoal, which will slow down the absorption of alcohol into the blood, which in turn will help to avoid intoxication.

Drinking a sufficient amount of liquid before and during the feast will also help to avoid rapid intoxication. Narcologists recommend drinking at least 2 glasses of clean water 30-40 minutes before the celebration. During the celebration, drink clean non-carbonated water, this will avoid further dehydration of the body. Drinking a glass of pure non-carbonated water before going to bed will help to avoid hangover thirst, which will make it possible to replenish the water balance caused by the intake of alcoholic beverages during a night's rest.

Drinking properly on New Year's Eve

Quite a lot has been written about how not to get drunk on New Year's Eve, the main principle is to drink one type of alcohol. If you started the feast with vodka, it is not recommended to use alcoholic beverages in the future, the strength of which is much lower than that of vodka. If you prefer noble cognac, try to drink a drink of the same variety during the New Year celebration.

Wine lovers should pay attention to red grape varieties. And remember - drinking a lot of wine can lead to vasoconstriction and high blood pressure, which in turn is the cause of a morning hangover and headache.

Observe the intervals between drinking alcohol. The longer the interval, the less will be the degree of your intoxication. In the case of noble drinks, try to enjoy their aroma and taste as much as possible. Alcohol should not be kept in the oral cavity for a long time - the blood vessels located there will carry alcohol throughout the body much faster than it enters from the gastrointestinal tract. Caution should be taken with cocktails containing alcoholic beverages of various strengths.

Folk methods to avoid getting drunk

Available folk recipes will help you not to get drunk on New Year's Eve. Having drunk a drink that you plan to drink for the duration of the entire feast 2-3 hours before the start of the feast, you will prepare your body for further alcohol intake.

If you do not drink strong alcoholic beverages, drinking hot, strong and sweet tea 20-30 minutes before the feast will help to avoid rapid intoxication. Eating fatty foods, buckwheat or oatmeal before the New Year's feast will slow down the absorption of alcoholic beverages. However, during the feast, it is better to avoid fatty foods - your liver will already suffer from alcohol and the extra load is completely useless to it. A spoonful of vegetable oil (preferably refined) or a raw egg will also help slow down the absorption of alcohol.

Do not mix one alcohol with another. Alcohol is completely eliminated from the body, depending on the individual, for three days. For others - a week, for others - up to two weeks.

Be sure to have a snack, combine drinking alcoholic beverages with a sufficient amount of food and "not to drive" - "not to drink one glass after another. "

Vegetable and fruit salads, fresh vegetables and fruits, cheese, hot dishes and light snacks (jelly or aspic) should be chosen as an appetizer. But with salads seasoned with fatty sauce (for example, mayonnaise), sweet cakes, you should be extremely careful. A slice of lemon or lemon juice diluted with a little water will help relieve intoxication. A properly designed entertainment program, which will include dances and competitions, will reduce the burden on the body and avoid rapid intoxication.

After the New Year's feast

At the end of the New Year's feast, in order to avoid a hangover, take a pancreatin tablet, which promotes the breakdown and assimilation of foods, improves the digestion process and the pancreas. Get fresh air during your night's rest, and before bed, drink an aspirin and a cup of freshly brewed green tea.

The day after the festive feast, you can use any sour product, sour juices, lemon or others to return to normal. The "best hangover" remedy is sauerkraut brine.
