Why 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 31 Moved to Disney+

In all honesty, I forgot just how much I loved watching Dancing With the Stars until season 30 sucked me in. With studio audiences coming back, JoJo Siwa and her partner Jenna Johnson being the first same-sex pair to ever compete on the show, Olivia Jade’s controversial casting, and Iman Schumpert’s historic win—it was quite a spectacular season. IDK about you, but I am officially back on the DWTS train!

Now it’s 2022. And another year means another Mirrorball Trophy up for grabs! ABC confirmed that Dancing With the Stars is returning for another round with season 31. The twist? It is no longer on ABC and will instead stream on Disney+.

Dancing with the Stars has entertained fans for 16 years on ABC, and we are excited to bring this beloved show exclusively to Disney+ as the platform’s first-ever live series,” Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, said in a statement. “The show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for Dancing With the Stars while continuing to expand our demographic reach.”

Dana Walden, Chairman of Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, added: “Dancing With the Stars has been a beloved staple on ABC for 30 seasons and brought so much joy to millions of viewers. As we’re significantly expanding our unscripted slate at ABC, this is a great opportunity to introduce this show to a whole new generation of fans on Disney+. We’re so grateful to our incredible partners at BBC Studios and look forward to continuing our relationship with them on this spectacular series, which will continue to be overseen by Rob Mills and the talented Walt Disney Television Alternative team.

Dancing With the Stars is among ABC’s top-rated programs and is one of the longest-running unscripted shows across all broadcast network television, so the move is pretty shocking. It sounds like it all comes down to conflicting TV deals and not enough primetime space, though. Monday Night Football is getting DWTS’s old slot, according to Deadline, so clearly ABC inked some sort of deal with the NFL that doesn’t leave room for the dancers.

If you’re still just as excited to watch on Disney+ though, don’t worry, we got all the info about next season. Here’s everything you need to know about Dancing With the Stars season 31.

    When will
Dancing With the Stars season 31 premiere?

At the 2022 Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Disney+ announced that season 31 will premiere on September 19 on Disney+.

    Who will be competing on
Dancing With the Stars season 31?

Good news: the cast list was just announced! Check out everyone competing right this way:

    Who will be hosting?

Tyra Banks will be back to take on her role as the hostess with the mostest for DWTS, but in a surprise twist, ABC cast another icon to join her as a cohost. Who is it, you ask? Oh, that would just be Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air!

Alfonso won the show’s 19th season, so he’s certainly no stranger to the competition. Plus, he has a history of hosting storied programs: Since 2015, he’s been the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. Can’t wait to see this duo in action!

On "Russia 1" the new season of "Dancing with the Stars" starts

    January 12, 2022 12:18

Already this Sunday on the TV channel "Russia 1" - a grandiose premiere of the new season of the show "Dancing with the Stars"! Spectators will again see how popular theater, film and stage artists conquer the main dance floor of the country.

On TV channel "Russia 1" everything is ready for the grandiose premiere of the new season of the show "Dancing with the Stars". Spectators will once again have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of dance together with theater, film and pop stars. The first episode is on the air this Sunday, January 16, at 17:50!

Serious tests and a real test of strength await the participants. They have no right to make a mistake, because only a week is given for preparation. In the rhythm of tango, rumba and jive, the contestants will strive to win and master completely new styles. Someone will be able to reach the end, and someone will have to be out of the standings. This will be decided by the viewers and the jury, which includes Daria Zlatopolskaya, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Yegor Druzhinin and Vladimir Varnava.

The new season of "Dances" promises to be bright in terms of the list of participants. This time, theater and film actors Maria Mironova, Dmitry Kharatyan, Marina Zudina, Alexandra Rebenok, Olga Medynich, Alexandra Revenko, Anatoly Bely and Valery Nikolaev, host Vladimir Markoni, and musician Vanya Dmitrienko will conquer the main dance floor of the country. A couple of them will be professional dancers - winners of international competitions.

Alexandra Rebenok admits that she has always been good at dancing, but has long dreamed of getting to know each other better. "Dancing is a special niche. You get an incredible surge of happiness hormones after a workout!" - says the star of the series "Resident". As part of the show, she hopes to master completely new styles: samba, rumba, cha-cha-cha... and attracts," the actress emphasizes.

But Anatoly Bely frankly declares that he goes through life with a dance! That is why he, without hesitation, agreed to take part in the project. The actor is especially close to jive, but he had never encountered ballroom dancing before. Together with his partner Inna Svechnikova, he patiently masters the basic steps and, of course, counts on victory. "I have a wonderful partner who just makes you fall in love with dancing," Bely assures, adding that the most important thing for him is to enjoy the process.

Well, the prima of the Moscow Art Theater Marina Zudina challenged herself with her participation in "Dances". The actress has always argued that dance is the destiny of the young. But, having received an invitation to the project, she suddenly decided on a "crazy" act. "So many years have passed, I realized that now is probably the right time to start dancing," explains Zudina. Step by step, discovering a new world of choreography, she suddenly realized what she had been deprived of all these years. “I have a feeling that I will continue to do this, for me this is the most important thing. It will be in my life,” Marina promises.

The show "Dancing with the Stars" is a worldwide hit that year after year attracts the attention of viewers around the world. For 15 years now, viewers of the Rossiya TV channel have been watching how popular artists take their first steps on the floor and overcome themselves in order to show real mastery in the final!

A grandiose competition, intensity of passions and a sea of dance pleasure: all this is the new thirteenth season of the show "Dancing with the Stars". According to Dmitry Kharatyan, People's Artist of Russia, for him any new experience is always a challenge: "But if at such a high level, with professionals, it can be called a "gift of fate." For actor Valery Nikolaev, ballroom dancing is not at all his

For the first time, beginners, but very self-confident stars will have to learn the basics of various dance styles along with folk artists. Their efforts will certainly be appreciated by the jury and TV viewers.0003

"This is such a crazy act, actually, because 10 years ago I thought and said that only young people should dance, and why do I need all this?" - admits People's Artist of Russia Marina Zudina.

This Sunday it will be very hot on the star parquet! Now the participants of the new season are all on the same level. None of them have any dance training, none of them seriously studied choreography. “I have never danced ballroom dancing and was not familiar with them at all! Therefore, now Inna is teaching me the first steps,” notes Anatoly Bely, Honored Artist of Russia.

In this show they will start from scratch and try to dance each other. This is what attracts the participants of the new season of Dancing with the Stars.

"I've never had such assignments in my life. Scary, unknown, but that's what attracts me!" - comments actress Alexandra Rebenok.
