YMCA - Disco for young Christians and not only: alex_andreev - LiveJournal

Today will be the second Friday disco, where we will listen to the same song until we vomit. Although, I hope, it will not come to this, because we will listen to it in different variations, keys and dialects.

This song celebrates the Young Men Christian Association or simply YMCA/YMCA.

Imka was founded by the 23-year-old Briton George Williams in 1844 to take away the youth who poured into London from the provinces in search of money and happiness, away from booze and brothels, that is, literally, away from sin. He was worried, as they would say now, about the lack of infrastructure for the normal leisure of working youth - no sports schools, no libraries, no cinemas. The Imka created by him began to promote three principles: a healthy mind, a healthy mind, a healthy body. In particular, she sang about this at 1978 Village People “Young man, if you are sad and your pockets are empty, go to Imka it’s so cool there, they will feed you there, and you can wash yourself and, in general, there will be a lot of fun.”

(Damn, I just noticed that on YouTube, the copyright holders forbade inserting this video into blogs, but the quality is much better there, so I had to take it from some strange site, but I just give a link to YouTube.)

It's funny that in this original clip, no one does the letters Y, M, C, A, although this is how they are now supposed to dance during the chorus. Here is a picture taken from Wikipedia for clarity.

And while the verses are being sung, it is supposed to poke a finger at those around you in a circle, they say: you, you, and you, march to Imka with a step! But this element was taken from the clip. And the fact that both old and young should know how to properly dance to Imka can be seen from at least these two amateur videos.

In this regard, the question arises about the language variations of the dance. In French, YMCA is UCJG, but I'm not at all sure that the penguins in this clip are trying to portray something like that.

Therefore, it would seem that there can be no question, for example, of the Chinese version of the song about Imka. Moscow the American comedian Russell Peters speaks and shows this well (in English).

And yet, the song about Imka exists in all major hieroglyphic languages. It's just that in the most important place they switch to the original language.

Chinese:

Japanese:

Korean:

You can find YMCA in both German and Spanish on YouTube, but there are only static pictures, no real video, only audio.

By the way, I didn't find the Russian version either, but I found a fragment of one of the issues of "ProjectorParisHilton".

Here Imka is performed by the Royal Swedish Orchestra.

In my opinion, this is also an interesting orchestral arrangement.

Finally, a bonus track. A parody of YMCA a song about Moses, a bush that burns and does not burn, and the almighty Jehovah, who reveals the secret of His Name (YHWH). Unfortunately, only a karaoke version from the group "Apologetics". have fun!

Youth organization YMCA of the North held a disco (December 2005)

December 15, 2005, 09:29 Kirovsk

The YMCA Youth Organization of the North held a preventive disco in Kirovsk dedicated to the All-Russian decade of SOS.
The YMCA of the North has been engaged in the prevention of drug addiction, smoking and drinking among adolescents for a long time, highlighting this area of its work as a priority. Many schoolchildren of Kirovsk and Apatity during the year attended special trainings that activists of the YMCA of the North held at the Lesnaya Izba recreation center of the Apatit Railway Center. Climbing and romance of the mountains, according to the leaders of the movement, is a good alternative to bad habits. And in this organization they love to sing, dance and put on theatrical performances. Music and movement is the language of youth, in which the YMCA of the North tells the children about a healthy lifestyle and universal values.

Ira Alekseeva, leader of the YMCA of the North youth organization: The YMCA is an international youth organization that teaches young people and teenagers to understand Christian values, but does this through its creative programs, such as TEN SING, one of the YMCA programs that contains 3 components are dance, drama and song, that is, through creativity and some kind of creativity, the guys learn the idea of Christian values, the idea of goodness, creation.

60 schoolchildren from the city of Kirovsk took part in the preparation for the preventive disco. About a week and a half before the event, they first got together to prepare its program. All the children were divided into groups according to their interests. Some of them entered the breakdance group, another part prepared theatrical performances and competitions, and the rest learned the song in unison.
And finally, the X-hour has come. The doors of the Ghost Ship disco hall were opened for 150 teenagers from the city of Kirovsk, who were given free invitation cards in advance.
DJ Mixer turned everyone on with modern dance rhythms and pulsing lights. The non-stop music lasted about 30 minutes, and then the host appeared before the audience:

Alexey Puzanov: Good evening, people!... Well, for starters, I would like to say that today the youth organization of the YMCA of the North greets you in this hall - oh! Thanks to her for organizing this wonderful holiday, which is dedicated to the decade of SOS.

The presenter, like a real showman, cheered up the audience, appearing here and there, social advertising clips were shown on a huge screen. The program of the disco was full of surprises prepared by YMCI activists of the North.

Dasha, leader of the youth organization YMCA of the North: Today we have videos against drug addiction, smoking, alcoholism in the program, and the disco itself, the disco program, performances, drama and choir skits, and the show will end with a break dance.

The scene of overcoming drug addiction, authentically played out by the guys to the vocal accompaniment of the choir, was perceived by the audience almost like an encore. The speakers were followed by applause. Fun competitions also became a good relaxation after the next charge of dancing.
One of the demonstrative gestures of the organizers was the collection of cigarettes in the hall and then their defiant destruction. Although the fact that smoking is harmful, many teenagers know firsthand, but for some reason they still act contrary to common sense.

Rita, YMCA member: I think some people want to be cooler, others maybe more mature. And others may just be. …

The culmination of the prophylactic disco program was the performance of the jet masters group of breakers.
After their performance, the breakers urged the guys to follow their example, not to drink alcohol and drugs. After all, bad habits, in their opinion, are the lot of the weak, and only people who are strong in body and spirit achieve success in this life.
