Electric Slide Dance Video - Dance Instruction
Created in the 1970s, Electric Slide is still performed to a variety of styles of music including pop and country. The instructional and performance videos below will help you learn how to dance this fun line dance.
The Original Electric Slide
Rick Silver claims to have choreographed the Electric Slide dance in the 1970s and was originally called "The Electric". The dance owes its long-standing popularity to the fact that no special training or skill is required to perform it. The following video shows Rick Silver teaching his initial steps:

Electro Dance Variations
The original version was done in some laces and Electric Slide they are completely excluded. Here is a tutorial video that does not use these two elements. It also shows several other variations including a chassé or triple step and touching the floor.
Country and Western
The Electric Slide became popular as a country and western dance in the 1980s and is still danced to country music at dances and bars that play country and western music. The people in the video below perform the traditional steps without clapping, in a variation that involves dancing in lines facing each other and then crossing and facing a new line of people.
Hip-hop
The dance in this performance was performed with a noticeable taste of hip-hop. Electric boogie-woogie video performed by Marcia Griffiths. Note the jumping and expressive hand movements that distinguish the hip-hop version from other styles of this dance.
Cha Cha Dance
The Electric Slide's simplicity makes it easy to adapt to different dance styles. In the following video you can see the basic electric slide steps with some jumps, cha-cha steps, turns and other variations.
Electric Slide Instructions
Watching performances and instructional videos is a great way to learn how to dance, but written instructions are also helpful. If you watch these videos and follow the instructions, you will soon be able to join others doing the electric slide at weddings, dances, and other events. The girl is two years old. In April of this year, she stuck her hand into an electric meat grinder. She underwent surgery, and for some time it seemed that her fingers were alive and would even move. But that's just how it seemed. A little more than a month passed, the girl's fingers dried up, and they had to be amputated. Now Vika can’t take anything with this hand, and she can’t do what she already did very well - for example, dress. And yet - the world began to seem to Vika a rather dangerous place: the girl thinks about any object that it will behave just like a meat grinder.
I am sitting on the floor and Vika is sitting on the couch. We are trying to play, but it is very dangerous. On the couch, besides Vika, sit a teddy bear, a teddy hare, some other unidentified plush animal, and a doll. Quite frivolously, I pick up the bear, and Vika screams and says to me:
— It bites!
— Come on! I don't believe.
Well, how can you play with a teddy bear? He can dance, whisper something in the girl's ear, hug the girl... But Vika says:
- It bites!
She is only two years old. She speaks quite a lot of words for her age, but almost no phrases yet. That's why I don't understand her.
Who bites? - I ask. - Bear? Do you think he will bite me?
A girl takes a toy from me. And suddenly the toy bites her. For the finger of the hand that remained intact. I want to say: the girl plays with the bear as if he had bitten her. And he states with satisfaction:
- It bites!
And gives the bear to me. Now, as far as I understand, the bear should bite me too. And my mother, and my grandmother, and the photographer who came with me to take pictures of Vika. Give the bear free rein, he would generally bite the entire population of the city of Alexandrov, where Vika lives, and the entire population of the city of Vladimir, where Vika had an operation, and especially the doctor who promised that everything would be fine with her fingers, and even the nurses who, after an unsuccessful operation nevertheless demanded money. He would bite everyone. He is dangerous.
In general, as I understand it, it is now interesting for Vika to imagine its possible danger about any thing on earth. And play this danger Probably, in this way the girl gets rid of too painful fears about the world around her in the game.
We spend an hour and a half at Vicki's. All this time we play dangerous-safe, as they sometimes play edible-inedible. These games are invented by Vika. And if we do not play dangerous-safe with her, the girl cries.
For example, the photographer Sasha. He's definitely dangerous. And it's easy to check. To test this, Vika takes a large strawberry from the bowl and brings it to Sasha. As long as you carry the berry, there is no danger. Even such a dangerous person as Sasha would not attack a little girl while she was carrying strawberries to him. Vika gives the berry. Sasha takes, thanks. And at this moment the girl becomes interested. Whatever the spirit has, Vika runs from the photographer to her grandmother. But while the girl is running and hiding, Sasha manages to take several pictures. Vika is satisfied and Vika is crying. She cries because her crippled arm has been noticed.
She is satisfied that the photographer Sasha really turned out to be a dangerous person who only thinks of how to photograph a crippled hand. Hiding behind her grandmother, Vika cries and looks sadly at her crippled hand. And I think: this game is in danger and this crying is necessary for the girl in order to overcome the danger of the world that has somehow suddenly opened up to her in the game.
Finally, we go for a walk. It's hot outside. It is very hot, and Vika is dressed in a light short dress, which her mother chose on purpose so that the girl would look more beautiful in the photographs. Usually a girl does not go for a walk in a short dress. Usually he wears pants, because it is more convenient to mess around in the sand, swing on a swing and ride down a hill.
A slide, an ordinary metal slide, such as we have in our yards at playgrounds, is the most dangerous place. Vika knows this. The slide has become especially dangerous since Vicky has only one active hand left. With one hand, it is very inconvenient to climb the hill along the ladder, because there is nothing to hold on to the handrails, and the ladder is steep.
That is why, it seems to me, Vika resolutely goes to the hill. Climbing the ladder, holding on with one hand, and it's dangerous. Dangerous, of course, but the grandmother is on the left, and the mother is on the right. They will support.
