I danc eballet amd I want it to become my prefession ( or part time) How do I become a better dancer to help this along?

First of all, I would recommend talking to your teacher. If you're not already dancing with a special studio or school, your teacher will know where there is one and help you get in if this is really your dream.
Second, your center is key. By your center, I mean your stomach muscles. If they are not strong, you will not be able to dance as well. These are the most important muscles you need to dance. There are lots of exercises to strengthen them. Since everything comes from the center, I would recommend you work on strengthening those muscles. Ask your teacher or look into how to do pilates. Probably the exercises that your teacher would have you do would be very similar to pilates.
Increase your flexibility. Slowly. Don't hurt yourself by pushing too fast or hard. Again, ask your teacher for some stretching exercises you can do to increase your flexibility.
Finally, have some fun! This is the most important part. Maybe I should have put it at the top. If you're not having fun, then what's the point of dancing and who will want to watch you?

You can be the best, if you have sheer determination and believe that you can do it. I thoroughly believe that anyone can achieve whatever they wish to if they are willing to believe, and not just think that success and the height of achievement is reserved for a few. Go for it. Work exceedingly hard for what you want. It pays off. Learn as much as you can about those who have excelled and what made them great. See yourself there and never take your eyes off that image.

you need to join a pre-professional school like SAB, ABT's Jacquie, PNB, CPYB, Kirov (UBA) school, etc. yes, it might be possible to get good enough training somewhere else but you really need to go to one of the 'big name' schools if you want to go pro, beause then you can make contacts to get a job.

This weekend, I'll be attending my great uncle's 80th birthday party in Chicago. His children are throwing it, and they're going all out--orchestra, jackets, ties, dresses..the whole nine yards. Uncle Bob's a fan of big band music, so that's gonna be the theme. I'm taking my new girlfiend there, who's kinda shy, but if I knew some old dance moves and were to lead her on the floor, she'd have a lot of fun. And I really, really wanna show her a good time doing something different. Any quick advice on how to dance to the music? I've been listening to old big band music, so I'm learning the songs. I really want to entertain my new sweety! Plus, the older gals from my family will probably want to cut in, too.

You don't want much, do you? Just learn foxtrot, quickstep, and a couple of the swing dances in one easy lesson? Why not throw in waltz, polka, and rumba while you're at it? I'd suggest ballroom lessons, at a rate of about a hundred hours a day, as a good starter.
It's overly optimistic, but if you could go to http://www. ballroomdancers.com/Dances and get a vague idea of the quarter turns in quickstep, that and a good prayer would be a good place to start.

Do the jitterbug which is the six count step that came out of Lindy Hop. It was actually a rest dance for Lindy Hoppers to catch their breath with in between Lindy Hopping. You step on your left for two counts (which you can break down to toe -1, heel - 2) then step on your right for the next two counts. For the last two counts (5, 6) you step back with your left and rock forward on your right. Basically one count per foot on those last two counts and don't step back very far. Your partner does the same thing, but she starts on her right foot and mirrors your footwork. The major problem will that you need to learn the turns which you lead the lady into and that takes some learning. If you can't find a swing society near you then try watching Youtube. Some great footage there. Dance with older dames, they appreciate any male willing to dance and are usually a great source of learning dance moves.

In integral dance and integrative dance movement therapy, we proceed from several basic principles:

1. Consciousness and body are inseparable.
2. Man is a process, not an object.
3. Dance can be found in everything.

These provisions help to go clearly and deeply into those topics for which simply intellectual understanding is not enough, which require living, full inclusion on the bodily, emotional, cognitive and spiritual levels.

At this training we will look at the great dance of our life: its different stages, past and future stages. We will dance, finding source and inspiration in the body, music and our own history, its different stages - serene and / or painful childhood, rebellious and / or revealing youth, difficult and / or brilliant maturity, calm and / or happy old age ...

Perhaps some of the stages are associated with experiences of pain or fear, helplessness or ambiguity for us, but by drawing on dance we can bring more clarity, presence and vitality to these areas of personal history.

What if all these stages of life, past and future, could be sources of dance, become part of the dance journey?
What are the resources and challenges at each stage of the life journey?
What remains when one of the steps is completed?
What debts to the past should be repaid?
What are the challenges of the future to meet?

Reflections on the topic of training:

One of the topics that interests me from time to time is the topic of time; not only physical time - the change of cycles of day and night, seasons; not only bodily time - the feeling of one's own rhythm, internal bodily cycles, but also human - personal and cultural - time, including psychological age.

It always seemed to me that the external division into ages, the linear perception of one's own life path is too external, it does not reflect the inner reality. Rather, we are distributed by age, they return and disappear, are born but do not die, change and remain the same… as ego-states inside me, and old age begins to "sprout" inside after the middle of life.

Several different age states coexist within us, we are internally “smeared” along the time line. I may sometimes feel like a child (especially when playing with children) or experiencing childhood states during a stressful or creative regression. I can feel like a teenager facing the challenges of uncertainty about my place in the world and in relationships. I understand maturity as the feeling of one's own strength and the dedication of this strength to something greater than a separate "I". I notice how old age begins to grow in me, through rejection and fear to understanding and deep acceptance.

I'm wondering how I can relate to these different inner ages, what life tasks they are associated with, can I experience the integrity of my life as a story unfolded in time?
